Guest blog written by Gary Thome, HP Vice President of Strategy, Industry Standard Servers and Software

With Gartner just releasing their latest Magic Quadrant for blades, it seems appropriate to write a bit more on BladeSystem. We are both pleased and proud that Gartner placed HP in the Leaders Quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Blade servers, for both completeness of vision and ability to execute.

While Gartner reports on blade servers, we at HP believe that the importance of BladeSystem is found in the name – it is above all, a system, and not just servers. We have placed great emphasis on innovating at a system level, with technologies such as Virtual Connect, Thermal Logic, and in recent years, CloudSystem. We see many of the issues plaguing traditional infrastructure as being inherent in the nature of traditional infrastructure. The best way forward was to re-think infrastructure as a system and not merely a collection of components. We believe this system level thinking has helped our customers over the past five plus years gain new levels of efficiency, saving time, cost, and energy with BladeSystem.

Of course servers are still a key component of BladeSystem, and with the recent announcement of our ProLiant Gen8 servers with our new ProActive Insight architecture, brings whole new innovations to BladeSystem. The ability to easily update the firmware on entire enclosures, or to connect directly to the support experience via our new Insight Online brings unique innovations at both a server level and a system level, addressing key challenges with managing IT infrastructure.

We are thankful for the industry recognition and we are even more thankful for our customers, who trust our HP BladeSystem technology day in and day out. We’ll keep on innovating!

A direct link to report can be found here.

Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in its research publications, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors with the highest ratings.
