I've received some comments about specific problems with certain products. I have not published these comments since they were not really comments about the blog topic. However, if the person provided an email address, I replied directly to them with information to help with their specific problem. If you submitted a comment like this without an email address, then you are probably feeling pretty ignored by now. So to help with that I wanted to make sure everyone knows about some new forums that HP has started specifically for these individual questions and issues, and one of them is just for network and wireless printers:

Please, check it out !

I have connected my HP All-in-one 5610 to my HP 1-in-3 NAS Docking Station (named Dock) via USB, where I assigned a Printer Pool. In Dock's HTML utility The printer reports as "Officejet-5600-series" with no errors.

From my wirelessly connected laptop's command line, XP's "Net view" reports the printer is shared (also) as "Officejet-5600-series".

XP's "Printers and Faxes"/"add printer"/"Browse For Printers" I search for and find \\Dock\Officejet-5600-series. I click Next and get the "Connect to Printer Window". I click yes and I get the message:

The server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver click OK. Otherwise click cancel.....

A working driver is already installed, but in a direct Laptop-USB-Printer configuration.

When you say "wired", I assume you mean with a USB cable, since I don't think this printer supported Ethernet, but let me know if you meant wired with Ethernet as opposed to USB.

You can use an external print server or windows printer sharing to network this printer so you could use it from your wireless laptop. Most solutions let you print to it but not scan or use other functions over a network connection. An exception is the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit. Using windows printer sharing is free; you might want to check out www.microsoft.com/.../honeycutt_july2.mspx
