Go beyond listening with your social media data

Newsletter.JPGWe have all heard it beforeto effectively compete and lead in your industry today, your company must use social media to learn more about, and interact with, customers, partners and employees. To do this successfully though, means that you must go beyond “listening” to integrating and acting upon your social media data.  According to Valerie Logan, VP of HP Information Management and Analytics, we often find our clients “stuck” in the “listening” phase.  “The scenario we routinely encounter with clients is that they are listening to their customers’ needs, however they aren’t managing the real time or near real-time data well. As a result, they are failing to deliver contextual engaging communications, which is exactly what social media is intended to do.”

Val admits that tackling social media can be overwhelming to clients. “It can be quite daunting when your realize what all you have to deal with -  new data sources and combinations, new technologies, new ways of working, new talent, new ways to measure, and a new way of thinking. However it doesn’t have to be that way.”

Val advises that you look for a vendor/partner that has designed a comprehensive, yet flexible, business-driven methodology to help you develop a social business strategy and build a roadmap that best meets your company’s need. Similarly, in the Gartner report “2012 Strategic Road Map for Business Gets Social”, Gartner Analyst, Carol Rozwell states that many enterprises have experimented with social media and now want to develop a strategy that supports business goals The social media strategy that fits an enterprise best will vary, depending on its organizational model and focus.

“The ultimate goal is for you to be successful with your social media, and having a shared strategy and solid roadmap enables you to capture and analyze this data, integrate it with existing data, and translate insight into action,” says Val. HP has developed a methodology and deployment mechanism to help social media leaders build a strategy appropriate to an enterprise's business goals.

If you are ready to go beyond simply listening to your customers, to anticipating and responding to their needs quickly to keep that competitive edge, we would like to suggest you read our new HP Newsletter: Beyond listening – integrating and acting upon social media data, featuring Gartner research.
