Government of Catalonia Agency Awards HP $40 Million Contract for Applications Services

By Daniel Amor, EMEA Lead for Application Modernisation, Hewlett Packard Company

HP recently won a large contract with Generalitat de Catalunya (CTTI), an institution of the Government of Catalonia, which provides the following services to the Catalonian region.

  • Acquisition and implementation of infrastructure, networks and telecommunications services for the Government
  • Management and operation of systems and services to the Government and telecommunications
  • Technical advice, consulting projects, establishment of standards, technical requirements and approvals
  • Management of the frequencies associated with the telecommunications services of the Government

AppsTrans.JPGCTTI has a large set of applications environments that need to be modernised. HP has been tasked to conduct this application transformation programme over the next 6 years to provide CTTI with a more flexible and adaptable application landscape to support economic growth in the region.

HP will use its Transformation and Integration Services and Applications Management Services to optimize and manage the CTTI applications. CTTI employees use these applications every day to manage contracts and other business as well as access portals and oversee web content. As a result, CTTI expects to better align the applications portfolio to the government’s priorities with the potential to reduce its expenses.

A typical application transformation project starts with applications rationalization, which include the following steps:

  • Building a complete inventory of all the applications
  • Identifying all the costs associated with them
  • Linking them to the business value they provide
  • Developing a roadmap of actionable modernization projects designed to align them to business and technology strategies going forward

Once the base line has been set, we use our strategic planning expertise, innovative visualization technologies, patent-pending tools and IP to help customers enter the modern era where business and technology work in sync.

Our approach includes three basic phases:

  • Assess and rationalize: We assess complete IT environment including applications, data and infrastructure.
  • Modernize: We transform applications, data and infrastructure from rigid legacy environments to modern environments, taking advantage of today's open standards including service-oriented architecture.
  • Manage: We build solutions with management in mind, whether you're planning to outsource to us or manage the new environment yourselves.

This project extends our existing relationship with CTTI that has been focused around IT Outsourcing and some application services.

The official press release on this project is available on hp.com.
