High-performance customer segmentation with SAP CRM on HANA

By: Martin Petersen, Executive Program Director, Customer Relationship Management, HP Enterprise Services and  Carsten Diederich, EMEA Alliance Executive SAP, HP Enterprise

sap ucc.gifHP and SAP recently announced that SAP University Competence Center at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg successfully delivered a pilot for high-performance customer segmentation based on SAP CRM powered by SAP HANA running on a pre-packaged appliance from HP AppSystems.

The solution was configured by Otto von Guericke University students during their course "Recent Topics in Business Applications”. The task for the students was to design a customer segmentation showcase for the automotive industry, deploy the SAP CRM on HANA solution based on SAP RDS best-practice templates and configure the showcase in SAP CRM.

In addition, another team of students set up a data segmentation model with five million potential customers, enriched with information from Facebook “like” user interests and sentiments for various car makers and models.

The showcase resulted in the ability to perform customer segmentation on four marketing attributes (20 million data records) in less than two minutes.
