BbSZVSXCAAAJ2wJ.png large.pngTim Campos, the CIO for Facebook, discussed the transition currently underway from an industrial age economy to a knowledge-based economy and how Facebook’s partnership with HP has allowed them to explore the frontiers of this emerging business environment (see the video on YouTube). Facebook has benefited greatly through the use of HP Vertica in maximizing the lifeblood of their company: data. “The thoughts and ideas that come from our workforce are what drive us,” Campos stated.

As more enterprises embrace the cloud, they need to define where to put their workloads. Often, applications will continue to live across multiple environments, and hybrid delivery becomes a reality for many organisations. HP announced at HP Discover the next-generation HP CloudSystem for building and managing private clouds.

This includes a new enhanced user interface, simplified management tools, and an improved deployment process that enable customers to set up and deploy a complete private cloud environment in just hours, compared to weeks for other private cloud solutions. HP CloudSystem has been set up to be able to burst to multiple public cloud platforms, including three new ones: Microsoft Windows Azure, Arsys, and SFR in France.

The application transformation team demonstrated how the AT2C Workbench can be used to analyse application portfolios and deploy applications quickly to any kind of cloud platform, either private cloud, such as the aforementioned HP CloudSystem, managed cloud, such as the HP VPC offering or public cloud. Many companies consider public cloud for development and testing purposes, but not for production environments. With the AT2C Workbench customers are able to configure their application lifecycle management in such a way that it can benefit from the different pricing and SLA cloud models during development, testing and production.

More than 10.000 people attended HP Discover and the application transformation team enjoyed the interaction with clients and partners in Barcelona. The team says thank you and we are looking forward to welcoming you again in June in Las Vegas.
