Cloud Talk with CenterBeam
By Calvin Zito, @HPStorageGuy
I usually don't like having more than one blog post in a single day but I'm so excited to bring you this one that I'm not going to wait until tomorrow!
While at HP Discover and heading to our HP Storage customer appreciation party, I was talking to Brent Allen, the product manager for our HP VirtualSystem for VMware - he had done a session and our customer CenterBeam co-presented with him. I told him I'd love to do a podcast with them. Brent told me to turn around because Karen Hayward, EVP and Chief Marketing Office and Shahin Pirooz, EVP, Chief Security Officer and Chief Technology Officer from CenterBeam were coming right behind us.
I had a great time talking to Karen and Shahin at our customer party and we made plans to do a podcast. I talked to them a bit early today and have the podcast for you now - and in record time considering I also just got back from taking my son to celebrate his 13th birthday by having a bunch of his friends go paintballing.
In the podcast, I talked to Shahin - here's what we covered:
- Background on CenterBeam - they've been providing cloud-based services since 1999. It's an interesting story to hear about how they were providing cloud-services before anyone was calling it cloud.
- How they use HP Converged Infrastructure, including their move from Dell servers to HP ProLiant and from EMC storage to HP 3PAR. Shahin talks about 3PAR thin provisioning, storage tiering and 3PAR performance as being key to using 3PAR.
- Shahin and I talk about recent patents CenterBeam has earned including a new patent that allows them to use a "BYOS" (bring your own security) model delivering their cloud services.

More about CenterBeam
Here are a few more ways to learn more about CenterBeam:
- There's a customer success story that has some additional information that I didn't talk to Shahin about.
- Here's more information you can read about the security patent that we discussed around Bring Your Own Security.
