Converged Storage: Blogger Reality Contest week 1

Week one of the "Reality Blogger Contest" that I mentioned in my last post is in the bag.  You have a couple of days to vote but if you haven't already, I'd suggest you do it today!  The topic we covered was Converged Storage - something we announced at HP Discover.

Contest week 1 content

The process we used was to host a virtual briefing via the web.  We may publish that at some point in the future for you to check but I can give you a very condensed version of what we talked about. A few weeks ago, I had a chat with Lee Johns, Director of Converged Storage, who was also one of our presenters.  Here's that conversation I had with Lee:

You can also download this as a podcast (obviously no video) by right-clicking here and saving the file OR you can download all of my podcasts from iTunes by clicking here - it will open iTunes and allow you to download all of my recent podcasts.  If you have any issues with this second link, paste this into your browser: itpc://recordings.talkshoe.com/rss69339.xml.   "itpc" is a special format that opens iTunes and lets you download the podcasts from iTunes.

The second presenter was Dale Degen - Dale is the product manager for the P4800 BladeSystem SAN and Dale helped bring converged storage to life by giving the contestants an overview of the P4800.  I've been saying for a long time how much I love this product - no one has anything like it and it really shows the Converged Infrastructure and now Converged Storage.

I did a blog post on the P4800 about a year ago based on a presentation Dale gave at an event.  Here's a short video (less than 6 minutes) that summarized Dale's presentation.  One note is that when we did this video, the P4800 was only for VDI implementations - that's changed and it is now a general purpose iSCSI SAN based on the HP BladeSystem.

If you have any problems watching this embedded video, click here to watch the video on HP Enterprise TV.

Blogger's point of view

Here's where you can see the posts written by our contestants.  Feel free to vote for your favorites.  Thomas Jones, our emcee for the contest, will be tallying up your votes, tweets and working with the judges to decide who moves on to the next round - though everyone will be encouraged to stay in the contest as we'll have an "at home winner" and other prizes for the contestants that stay engaged.  Here are links to the blog posts from round 1:

This week we'll be taking on the topic of Virtual Connect and networking.  That briefing with our contestants is on Wednesday so expect round 2 blogs shortly after that.

Thank you Calvin. I appreciate the opportunity of this contest not only to improve technical blogging skills but to have discussions with experts like Lee and Dale. I am looking forward to the remaining sessions.
