About once a month, I'm doing something I call "Now for something completely different" - where I step away from storage and technology and have what I hope you think is an interesting discussion. This version is with my HP colleague Jim Haberkorn who has written a fiction novel called Einstein's Trunk.

First a bit about Jim.  I first met Jim in about 1995 when he came to HP Storage.  We both worked in Boise and Jim came into storage with very little experience with storage.  I remember many of our early conversations were around me telling him about RAID and AutoRAID (I was an AutoRAID product manager at the time, working with the lab on the features we had in the firmware).

I came to think of Jim not only as a trusted colleague but also a friend and always enjoyed the conversations we had.  Jim moved away from Boise to live in South Africa, continuing to work in HP Storage and married another HP storage employee who worked in South Africa too.  He and his wife Kim moved to Boise and worked here for a while where I got to know Kim.  Fast forward to now, Jim and Kim live in Zurich, Switzerland both working for HP there, Jim still apart of HP Storage - in fact, Jim just hosted a very good internal webinar.

Einstein's Trunk

Jim and I talk about why he took up writing a book in the podcast and also talks a bit about the storyline in Einstein's Trunk.  I bought it for my Kindle several months ago, got busy and wasn't able to read it until late summer.  Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.  The main character is a bit of a cross between Indiana Jones and Jason Bourne.  I really enjoyed it and thought talking to Jim about his book would make for a great "Now for something completely different" podcast.  So here's my podcast with Jim.

Connect with Jim

I can't recommend Jim's book enough - if you'd like to learn more about his book, read his blog (which has nothing to do with HP), you can find it all at jimhaberkorn.com. My hope is that when Jim becomes a wildly rich million selling author, he'll remember his friend in Boise who taught him all about RAID!
