HP 3PAR StoreServ 7400 named technology of the year - here's why!

Forgive me if I'm a bit giddy and excited but I just learned that our HP 3PAR StoreServ 7400 was named InfoWorld's "Technology of the Year".  Add to this that HP 3PAR StoreServ was also recently named the best in class mid-range array by DCIG and I think you can understand why I might be doing a big of a happy dance!

Here's what InfoWorld had to say about why they picked HP 3PAR StoreServ:

Setting the HP 3PAR StoreServ apart from the competition is an underlying architecture designed specifically to eliminate the performance bottlenecks and failure modes of traditional block storage systems. Tight integration with VMware and support for the Storage Management Initiative Specification make the HP 3PAR StoreServ a perfect target for virtualization workloads. New all-flash models from HP 3PAR deliver high-end performance in basically the same package and integrate into the same management infrastructure. You can mix and match disk-based and flash-based units as requirements dictate, and draw on all the same HP 3Par features that substantially ease the burden of managing storage.

My personal story - I'm excited!

If you've been reading ATSB for any length of time, you hopefully know why I'm so bullish on HP Storage.  I have told the story in a few venues but I wanted to tell you a personal story that will show you why I'm so excited.  About a year and half ago, I was about to go into Meg Whitman's (HP CEO) keynote at HP Discover in Las Vegas.  Literally as I was getting to the door, I got a call from a friend and ex-HP colleague who was working for a leading storage competitor.  He had heard that HP was offering early retirement and he knew with my years of service at HP and my age, I would be on the list.  He wanted me to consider coming to work for him.

I could have walked away from HP with a sizeable retirement bonus (18-24 months of salary) and had a full time job with a leading storage competitor.  I didn't need to spend any time thinking about it - I said "thank you very much but I'm staying at HP".  My reason for staying at HP Storage was my belief that we have the best storage portfolio in the industry and I wanted to see things through - to enjoy the success of the turnaround we are in the midst of.

David Scott talks about HP Storage success

At HP Discover, David Scott (GM and SVP of HP Storage) did an interview with Dave Vellante (Co-founder of Wikibon) and John Furrier (Founder of SiliconAngle.com) and much of the discussion focused on the success that HP Storage has had over the last few years.  I'll include the video but here's also a link to a story on SiliconAngle titled 3PAR see tremendous growth at HP: Focuses on polymorphic architecture.

After posting this article, I came across another industry article related - this one from the BusinessInsider.com.  Check out "Meet the Guy Responsible for One of HP's most Successfull Acquisitions" - and if you haven't guessed, its a story about David Scott.
