HP Labs talks StoreOnce and more

Headshot 100X100.jpg By Calvin Zito, @HPStorageGuy

Last week at HP Discover we announced enhancements to our HP StoreOnce family.  We first announced StoreOnce deduplication - based on technology from HP Labs - at our HP event in Las Vegas two years ago.  We've been on a continuing push to deliver on our strategy of a single deduplication technology across the enterprise.

I remembered that in June 2010 I did a podcast with Mark Lillibridge - Mark is a Principal Research Scientist with HP Labs and he talked about some of the software innovations from HP Labs that are in StoreOnce.  The podcast was discarded when we moved to a new hosting platform but luckily, I'm a pack rat and was able to find this and pull it out of the archives.  Here's the discussion I had with Mark in my ATSB #23 podcast (from June 2010).

I have another podcast to share today - in it I talk to Steve Johnson (have done a couple of recent podcasts with Steve focused on our announcement at HP Discover) about some of the challenges that existed with deduplication and how HP StoreOnce is addressing them.

You can subscribe to my podcast on iTunes - go to the iTunes store and search for "Around the Storage Block" or you can open this link and click on the "View in iTunes" button under my picture.

I know I've given you a lot of content to consider today but if you want to go even deeper, here's how:  Check out the basics of StoreOnce deduplication part 1 and the basics of StoreOnce deduplication part 2; these two blog posts include session video from the HP event from 2010 that I mentioned where we introduced HP StoreOnce.  If you take the time to watch these videos, you can see how HP has absolutely delivered what we said we would with HP StoreOnce.

If you missed my other blog content from the StoreOnce announcement at Discover last week, you can see it all by clicking this link that will list all of the relevant blog posts.

A couple other podcast notes - I found this cool widget that will let you listen to any of my podcasts so you can check out any of the recent HP Discover podcasts or listen to older ones.  And remember, you can now subscribe to my podcast on iTunes by searching for "Around the Storage Block" on the iTunes store.

The main focus of backup is the recovery. Absolute certainty that data recovery will be successful and the time it takes to recover is as short as possible.
