HP Storage Tech Day 4 guest bloggers

Wow - I can't believe I went all week without a blog post.   It's been a busy week getting ready for our HP Storage Tech Day 4, hosted at the Nth Generation Symposium in Anaheim on July 29th.  I've pretty much nailed down the agenda and our guest bloggers have their flights and hotel rooms at the Disneyland Hotel booked.

Guess who's coming?

I wanted to let you know who is coming.   When ever we host bloggers at an event like HP Discover or an HP Tech Day, I want to promote the bloggers.  I think they provide a valuable service to the world of technology by offering their perspective on technology.  So without further ado, here who is coming and a link to their blogs:

  • Nate Amsden, techopsguy.com.  I'm excited to meet Nate - he is a frequent commenter on ATSB and is a long time 3PAR customer.
  • Nina Buik, Connect-Community.org. I met Nina at our first (and the storage industry's first) Tech Day.  Nina is the CMO of the independent HP users group, Connect.  She was at HP Discover but didn't get much time to chat with her so very glad she's going us.  She's also on Twitter as @ninabuik.
  • Dave Hurst, TheSuperDave.com.  Dave was a blogger in our "blogger reality contest" that we did a couple of years ago.  He's been a bit quiet as of late but is jumping back in to blogging with both feet.  He's on Twitter as @the_super_dave.
  • Brian Knudtson, knudt blog. Brian has attended a few events as a guest of HP.  He's also a fellow vExpert!  Find him on Twitter as @bknudtson.  NOTE: Brian has had an unexpected personal conflict and won't be attending.
  • Ray Lucchesi, Silverton Consulting Blog. Like Nina, Ray also attended our first HP Storage Tech Day and joined us in Ft. Collins last year for HP Storage Tech Day 3.  He has a deep background in storage and you can find him on Twitter as @RayLucchesi.
  • Jake Ludington, Jake Ludington's Digital Lifestyle, Delighted Robot, YouTube Channel. Jake was most recently at HP Discover but spent most of the event in front of a camera doing over 35 interviews in 3 days!  He's on Twitter as @jakeludington.
  • Robert Novak, rsts11 (resource sharing, time sharing).  This will be the first time hosting Robert at an HP event.  He worked as a system administrator at 3PAR in their early start-up days and has broad background in IT.  He's on Twitter as @gallifreyan.
  • John Obeto, AbsolutelyWindows.com.  John is a great guy and I wish he was my neighbor so I could hang out with him more.  He was just at Discover but I didn't get enough of him so I'm bringing him to Anaheim!  He's attended every HP Storage Tech Day.  He's on Twitter as @johnobeto.
  • Jeffrey Powers, Geekazine.com., YouTube Channel.   Jeff is going to be behind the camera and helping live stream our Tech Day.  He was with me a few months ago at NAB and Microsoft Management Summit and also was in Ft. Collins a year ago for our Tech Day there.  He's on Twitter as @geekazine.
  • Derek Schauland, Technically Speaking.  I first met Derek when our server team hosted bloggers at Cowboys' Stadium a few years ago.  He also joined us in Ft. Collins last year and I'm looking forward to having him at this Tech Day.  He's on Twitter as @webjunkie.
  • Bob Stein, ActiveWin.com. It's been a while since Bob has been to an HP event - I think it was at HP Discover in Vienna (2011).  If Bob holds true to form, he'll be doing a lot of tweeting - a near play-by-play look at our Tech Day so be sure to follow him on Twitter at @ActiveWin.

What's the agenda?

I also want to give you a look at the agenda.  Why bother telling you about the agenda?  Like I said, we're planning on live streaming the entire day - assuming the event venue internet co-operates - so you can watch along and even ask questions during the day.  At 8 AM PDT on July 29, head over to Jeffrey Power's YouTube channel to watch along.  This is nearly final but things might change a bit during our Tech Day.  NOTE: All times are Pacific Daylight Time.

  • 8 AM: Introductions and Why I'm Excited about the Future of HP Storage (my first time presenting at a Tech Day)!
  • 8:30 AM HP 3PAR StoreServ Deep Dive - I'm really pleased to have Siamak Nazari join us for this - Siamak was one of the first 3PAR employees and is an HP Fellow.
  • Noon: Lunch  Break
  • 1 PM:  Software Defined Storage overview and deep dives around storage management (and OpenStack), StoreVirtual and StoreOnce VSA.
  • 3:20 PM Break
  • 3:45 PM StoreAll with focus on Express Query.
  • 4:15 PM: Storage research at HP Labs with Kim Keeton
  • 4:45 PM:  MSA2040

On Tuesday, all the bloggers are staying on for the Nth Generation Symposium.  We won't continue to live stream but Nth has a great agenda including Meg Whitman giving a keynote so be sure to watch ATSB, our guest bloggers websites and twitter.

Hi Cal,

I'll be watching for a link to the stream! I'm interested in seeing a capacity increase and UNMAP support for the VSA in a future release.

We also have Chris Riley presenting on Tuesday afternoon during our executive and David, VP of HP Storage keynoting   on Wednesday morning as well as Gary Bergo, Storage CTO for the west on Tuesday afternoon. HP storage will be well representing during our symposium.

@Rick - we won't be announcing anything new during the Tech Day but we are planning on doing a live podcast with the StoreVirtual team in the next few weeks and you might get some of what you want from that.  We hope to announce the date and time of that live podcast during our Tech Day.

@Rich - really looking forward to seeing you and the team at Nth Symposium.  Thank you for the generous hospitality of hosting us!  See you in a week!

@Daniel - I'll be sure to pass taht along to Brian and Dave.
