HP Storage at VMworld - stay connected!

CJZ Headshot fixed 150 x 150.jpgBy Calvin Zito, @HPStorageGuy  vExpert 4 years.jpg

It's hard to believe that VMworld 2014 is just around the corner.  I always look forward to it because it is a great place for me to connect with the VMware community and it also signals the start of the college football season!  In fact, my Boise State Broncos are playing in Atlanta the day the VMworld ends.  You can get I'll be catching an early flight home for the game!

Last week at Nth Symposium, I asked Kate Davis, a frequent contributor here on ATSB, to spend a few minutes talking to me about what we'll have at VMworld.  It's a good high-level summary of how you can connect with us at VMworld and after the video, I'll give you a few more details.

Beer, magic, and HP Storage

I have a couple of blogger/vExpert briefings scheduled.  The briefings will be on Monday and Tuesday from 4 - 5:30 and we'll have drinks and snacks.  We'll also have Andrew Mayne - who has a style of magic that he calls "Shock Magic".  This will be fun!

Among HP presenters scheduled to join are Aboubacar Diare (VMware and storage expert and popular VMworld presenter) and HP 3PAR Chief Software Architect and HP Fellow Siamak Nazari.  The briefing will be repeated on Tuesday, same time and place so pick the one that works best for your schedule. If you're a blogger or vExpert and are joining, RSVP here for Monday, or RSVP here for Tuesday.  Here's a video clip from Andrew's A&E TV show.

On the Show Floor

VMworld SDDC booth.pngYou'll find our main HP booth as you enter center of the VMworld Solution Exchange.  Some of the storage demos you'll see include:

  • AlwaysOn Mobile Care (something I've discussed here a couple of timed)
  • HP 3PAR StoreServ and VMware integration
  • HP StoreOnce and StoreVirtual VSAs
  • and our "Petting Zoo" where you can get close to HP StoreOnce and HP 3PAR StoreServ 7450 All-Flash Array.

We'll have a theatre in our main booth so stop by during the Welcome Reception on Sunday to get the schedule - these booth presentations are a great way to learn more and connect with experts across HP.

As Kate and I discussed, there's a second booth where we'll focus on Storage for the Software-Defined Data Center.  This is booth number 417 and there should be a big HP sign overhead making it easy to find.  We'll have a beer station during the Hall Crawl on Tuesday and some other surprises that make stopping by a must.  We'll also be doing hands-on sessions with HP Storage experts making this the place to be if you want to hear about why HP 3PAR is rocking it in flash storage, what's happening with StoreVirtual VSA, HP and OpenStack, and lots more!

And we'll also have a coffee bar so if you're like me and always need a latte or coffee in your hand, stop buy and say hello and get a cuppa joe!

VMworld Sessions

We have a few sessions at VMworld (though never as many as we'd like) and here's what those are:

  • Monday, August 25 1 - 2PM.  Zooming In: How VMware Virtual Volumes (vVols) technology will provide storage arrays with X-ray vision.  This is a join session with HP's Ivan Iacconne from our 3PAR team and Patrick Dirks from VMware.
  • Tuesday, 11AM - 12PM.  The Perfect Stormage: How the combination of All-Flash Storage, Quality-of-Service Controls and Extreme Availability enables virtualizeing Tier-1 apps with confidence.  My fellow vExpert Eric Siebert will be a speaker along with Pd Prasad from our 3PAR team (a contributor here on ATSB).
  • Wednesday, 10 - 11AM.  Bridging the Physcial and Virtual Networks: Challenges and Opportunities. HP has a strong partnership with VMware around NSX and I'm sure you'll hear a lot about it in this session!
  • Wednesday, 12:30 - 1:30PM.  Best Practices for Sizing and Managing your VMware Environment.  I don't know how big the room is but I saw a report and there are a LOT of people signed up for this one.

And a Few Other Notes

Here are a few other things I wanted to make sure you know about:

  • If you're a customer, there is an invitation only customer party on Tuesday night.  If you haven't got an invite yet, reach out to your HP representative.
  • One of the thrills for me to be at events like HP Discover and VMworld is meeting with customers and partners.  If you're coming, let me know via Twitter or email (see hyperlinks I gave above); and as a double bonus, if you'd like to do a video with me promoting your business and how you leverage HP Storage, I'd love to do that with you too!

Hope to see you at VMworld!
