HP StoreOnce - the basics of HP deduplication software
By Calvin Zito, aka @HPStorageGuy
Today the Gestalt IT Tech Field Day is making a stop in our Cupertino Executive Briefing Center. While the focus of the day is HP Networking, we are including a technical presentation on HP StoreOnce deduplication software.
We announced HP StoreOnce D2D Backup System last June at HP Tech Forum. It was one of the most exciting (and written about) aspect of the announcement. I had this video but didn't use it after Tech Forum thinking that I had talked a lot about HP StoreOnce. That probably was a mistake. Just because we talk a lot about a technology inside of HP doesn't always mean that you're getting the same information. And I readily admit that there isn't much understanding of HP StoreOnce out there today.
So what better excuse do I have to give you an overview of StoreOnce deduplication software than it being front and center at the Gestalt IT Field Tech Day. This video features Jeff DiCorpo, a distinguished technologist in our nearline engineering organization. In part 1, Jeff gives an overview of deduplication and introduces StoreOnce. Next week -- assuming the video editing I still need to do goes well -- I'll have at least one more video that goes deeper into the secret sauce behind StoreOnce.
There are several other good blog posts that focus on StoreOnce that you can check out to get a headstart on learning more about our deduplication software. Hope you have a great weekend!

Can you (please!) post another version without the background music? Thanks.

@Aldo - oh boy, so I gotta ask - is it because it's annoying or is it because it's too loud? Personally (and I guess this stuff is always personal taste unless you can't hear the presenter), I like the background music but I've had a few internal people tell me the music was too loud. I do appreciate your feedback!

Personally, i like all kinds of music (I'm a musician), but its very hard to focus and concentrate with it in the background. For instance, I've never attended a presentation, seminar, etc and they played background music during the presentation. Very, very annoying. I'd suggest not ruining a very good deed/effort with trying to do too much. Aside from that, great job, idea and much appreciated.

Thanks Tony - I've moved away from adding music as background music. Before I was married, I used to sleep with the radio on too. My wife is annoyed by music playing during the day - I guess it's all personal taste but I am here to serve and don't include the music any more. Thanks - glad you find the content helpful.
