New version of Command View for the P6000 and EVA

One of the downsides of HP having so many product groups is that we can't sound the trumpet blast and do a press release every time there's something new - tech reporters out there wouldn't like us much.  As a result, there's often cool new products or updates to existing products that slip out onto hp.com without much notice.  Command View v10.0 for the P6000 and EVA is an example of that.

We announced the new P6000 EVA last June but it took a few more months to release Command View v10.0 so it wasn't part of that announcement. I found some YouTube videos that demo Command View v10.0 that I'll share with you today.  Here's a few high-level bullets on what's new:

  • "Single pane of glass" management for multiple Command View instances, provisioning and performance monitoring.  I'm not particular fond of the term single pane of glass as it was often abused by marketers but this is a nice step forward from previous versions of Command View.  One of the big things for current EVA customers is that this new Command View can combine both Array Based Management (ABM) and Server Based Management (SBM) EVAs into a single view.
  • Command View v10.0 supports all but the EVA3000 and EVA5000 arrays - so that means it works with all of the EVA 4xxx/6xxx/8xxx and the P6000 EVA.
  • There's now a single media kit for Command View, the new Performance Advisor software, SmartStart, and Replication Solution Manager (RSM).

As I said, Performance Advisor is a new piece of software that really improves monitoring and reporting of P6000 EVA performance.  It can also help with troubleshooting performance and controller load balancing.  Using Performance Advisor does require additional licensing.  I'm working with the team to capture a video demo of Performance Advisor and I'll hopefully have it some time soon.

There are 5 videos, each about two to five minutes long.  Note also that there are HD versions of each of these on YouTube that you can see in full screen mode so click on the YouTube icon at the bottom of each player so you can see the larger version.  Here they are:

Overview and installing Command View

Installing the Management Group Certificate

 Management Group Concepts

Interfaces changes to Command View v10.0

Array support and branding of Command View v10.0

If you're an EVA customer, I think you'll find this to be good stuff!  If you want to check it out for yourself, you can download Command View v10.0 from the HP Software Depot.  Go get it!
