Optimizing, planning, and designing email architecture

Yesterday I did a post with the first two parts of a four part podcast from Forrester Consulting on the topic of evo....  Today I have the final two parts of these podcasts - and they each about 5 minutes and have great information.  Part 3 talks about architecture options for email and how to evaluate what is best for your organization.

You can also download this podcast by right-clicking here and saving the file OR you can download all of my podcasts from iTunes by clicking here - it will open iTunes and allow you to download all of my recent podcasts.  If you have any issues with this second link, paste this into your browser: itpc://recordings.talkshoe.com/rss69339.xml.   "itpc" is a special format that opens iTunes and lets you download the podcasts from iTunes.

The last podcast in the series focuses on the planning and design of cost-effective email platform.  Here it is:

At HP, we have lots of different options for email architectures.  A few years ago, using a SAN for Exchange was the most common approach.  But as Microsoft has made changes to Exchange's IO behavior, direct attach storage or DAS has emerged as a solid storage solution for email.

What I find interesting is that some storage vendors will say that the only storage for Exchange is a SAN.  When you look a little deeper, you'll see that typically those recommendations come from storage vendors that only have SAN-based storage. You know the old saying - when all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

One architecture approach HP has taken is converged infrastructure with the E5000 Messaging System for Exchange.  It's an integrated Exchange in a box solution that HP co-developed with Microsoft.  I've had several videos and blog posts talking about it.  As good fortune would have it, John Obeto's AbsolutelyWindows.com blog has named the E5000 as the 2011 SmallBizWindows storage product of the year.

Hope you find these podcasts useful and check out the Forrester paper titled "Evolving Your Email Architecture Approach for Today's Business" - its at the bottom of the post as an attachment you can download without registering for it.
