September 8 SMB announcement

CartoonCalvin100X100.JPG By Calvin Zito, aka @HPstorageGuy

Yesterday, our Small and Medium Business (SMB) team did an announcement that storage had a big part in.  As you know, I was at VMworld last week.  Lee Johns, marketing director in HP StorageWorks was also there and it was my plan to grab Lee, find a secret corner at the event and get a video blog for this announcement.  Things were crazy-busy at VMworld and we didn't have time to do the video blog for this announcement.  However, I got Lee on the phone just before I left for a short trip to our site in Ft. Collins (just north of Denver) and we discussed the announcement.

The storage bits of the announcement include the new P2000 G3 MSA with 10 Gb Ethernet (iSCSI), the P4000 Virtual SAN Appliance for Microsoft Hyper-V, and Data Protector Express 5.0.  We also talked a lot about the new ProLiant MicroServer.  This podcast is a bit longer than other podcasts (about 17 minutes) but I was enjoying the conversation with Lee about these solutions and I think you'll find it good information as well.   So here's the podcast:

We have an SMB announcement page on where you can see more details about the ESSN (the organization in HP that has servers, storage, networking and software) piece of the announcement.

UPDATE: I forgot to include a link to an article titled "The new business imperative: Do more with less" that talks about HP's overall SMB focus areas (so not a bunch of product info in this article).  I also updated the podcast player.

Good information, many thanks towards the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Many thanks again and great blog.
