Storage product of the year finalist

I recently told you about HP 3PAR StoreServ winning technology of the year from InfoWorld.  Storage Magazine, another publication, is doing their Product of the Year awards.  There are a couple of products that I wanted to point out that are finalists and since I have ChalkTalks on them, thought it would be a great opportunity to mention them here.

Storage System Finalist

In the category of "storage systems", our AFA HP 3PAR StoreServ 7450 is a finalist.  There are 11 other finalists, and 5 of the 12 are AFA or hybrids.  I do find it interesting that none of the AFA "startups" made the list and since I don't know what Storage Magazine's criteria were, I'll leave it at that.  You can check out all the finalists in this category on Storage Magazine's website.

I've included the original 7450 ChalkTalk I did.  There were some enhancements to the 7450 announced in December at HP Discover that were after this ChalkTalk but this one gives the best high-level overview.  The big updates were performance (from over 500,000 IOPS now to 900,000 IOPS at under .7 ms latency) and new higher capacity SSD drives at a lower cost.  You can see what we did there on my blog post detailing what was new with 3PAR StoreServ.

Storage Management Finalist

The other product I want to highlight is Fabric Vision Technology.   We were the first Brocade OEM to offer Fabric Vision with our StoreFabric B-series storage networking infrastructure. Fabric Vision is a hardware and software solution that helps IT organizations accelerate new SAN deployments, optimize resources and dramatically reduce operational costs.  There are four major categories of features that I talk about in the ChalkTalk so please check it out!  If you want to see the other finalists in this category, you can check that out on Storage Magazine's website.

I also want to remind you again about a TweetCast that I'll be participating tomorrow.  Our partner in the UK, RichardsonEyres, asked me if I would help answer questions about the evolution of storage and of course I said yes.  We'll start the discussion at 11 AM ET on 30 January, 1600 GMT.  We'll be using the hashtag #EvolutionOfStorage.  I hope you can join us.

Thanks for the mention of Fabric Vision Calvin and here's to both Brocade and HP bringing home the gold in our respective categories!
