Tuesday at VMworld

Another very busy day today at VMworld.  The morning started with the keynote by CTO Steve Herrod.  I got to the blogger's lounge late and only caught the tail end of it.  I met Steve at the Nth Generation Symposium in 2010.  He's a rock star in the VMware community and I'm fortunate enough to have been invited to a CTO reception with him tomorrow night.

Thomas Jones, emcee for our blogger reality contest, organized a one hour segment on the VMworld vCommunity video channel.  Thomas talked to the "organizers", the bloggers, and the judges. I'm trying to find a link for the video but not sure if it's available for on demand.  Here's video of our discussion.

Next up was our HP supersession hosted by David Scott.  Carl Eshenbach kicked the session off talking about the strong partnership between HP and VMware.  He emphasized that the partnership is more than just a marketing partnership but a strong engineering partnership.  Carl said, "VMware shares a very similar view to the world around converged infrastructure.  When you think of cloud computing there's not many people better positioned to drive convergence of this infrastructure."  I'll have more on the supersession next week.

Shortly after the David appeared on the Cube.  Here's a link where you can read a summary of David's comments or watch the video.

I also attended two technical sessions in the afternoon.  One was an overview of VMware Storage Replication Manager and how to implement it on the P6000 EVA.  I covered the what's new with SRM 5.0 in a recent podcast, check it out here.  I rolled right into another technical session that discussed VAAI.  Aboubacare Diare from our HP storage engineering team did a great job showing how VAAI can impact array performance and efficiency.  Again, I've talked about the latest VAAI primitives and here's a link to that.

Over the last few weeks, I have been working to invite bloggers and tweeps (people who are active on Twitter) to a cocktail party and Q&A with our HP Cloud Advisors.  This is a group of Chief Technologists and HP Fellows from across our Enterprise Business.  Rodney Haywood, who came to VMworld all the way from Australia has a good blog post that he wrote during the event.  He captured the Q&A on his blog.  I was very pleased with the turn out - thanks to everyone that came and especially to Rodney for taking notes that he put on his blog.

I am capturing multi-media (audio and video) from VMworld and will have more of that in the coming days.  Tomorrow is another packed day so I'm going to get some sleep.
