VMworld 2011 voting - vote for HP!

CartoonCalvin100X100.JPG By Calvin Zito, aka @HPStorageGuy

I'm just back from a glorious week of cruising in the Caribbean with my family, a couple of mice, a few ducks and dogs, a pirate, and several princesses.  I do have a minor case of post vacation blues that was made a bit worse by the fact it was snowing in Boise today - thankfully, none of it stuck.  But with HP DISCOVER right around the corner and VMworld at the end of the summer, I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

And speaking of VMworld, voting for sessions at VMworld is underway and in fact you only have a few more days to vote.  My purpose today is really to ask you to checkout the HP sessions and vote for the ones that you want to see on the final VMworld session list.  Here's how you can vote:

  1. Go to VMworld.com
  2. Click on the "vote now" button on the top-right side of the page.  NOTE: you need a VMworld account to vote or you can create one.
  3. You'll see a very long page of all the submitted sessions - and there are a LOT of them.
  4. Again on the top right, you'll see a search options box.  Click on it and under keyword type "Hewlett Packard".  You'll be presented with the list of all the proposed HP sessions - and there are a lot of them.

There are a lot of proposed sessions - here's my bucket list of the ones I'd really like to see:

  • 2503: Building and Managing Public and Private Cloud Services
  • 2769:  You Know You Must Deduplicate Your vSphere Backups but Which Approach is Best for You?  This is a joint session with HP and Veeam.
  • 2772:  Best Practices for Achieving High Availability Across Multiple Sites with VMware
  • 2774:  Supercharge Your VMware Deployment with VAAI and VAAI-enabled Storage Arrays.  This is a joint session with HP and VMware - and the HP presenter is one our our smartest VMware guys in our storage lab.
  • 2837: Understanding Storage QoS and Policy-Based Storage with vSphere.  This is another joint session with HP and VMware and looks really good.
  • 2845: Virtualizing Tier 1 Applications -- What Will it Take from Storage? Another joint session with HP and VMware that I hope gets accepted because I want to attend this!
  • 2826:  Performance Considerations for VMware Storage —from RAID to VAAI.  This session has a couple of the smartest storage and VMware technologists from our HP storage lab that I know.

I'll point out three more sessions that are panel discussions that I was asked to help with (by including someone from HP in the panels).  Each of these sessions have panelist from HP, Dell, EMC, and NetApp.  Those sessions are:

  • 1623: Storage Superheavy Weight Smackdown 2011
  • 1427:  Battle of the Storage Experts
  • 2481:  A Multi-Vendor Panel: "What Does Storage of the Future Look Like?"

Happy voting!

I don't work for HP but have put forward a presentation proposal based on my extensive work with HP Flex-10 and vSphere:

3005 – Designing and Building a Simple and Scalable Virtual Infrastructure with HP Flex-10 and ESX(i) which is the ONLY HP Flex-10 related presentation proposal.

Hi Julian - I saw your session mentioned on a blog by Juan Manuel.  I didn't include all the HP sessions in my list (it would be overwhelming) but thanks for leaving the comment about your session.  I hope it gets selected!
