Virtual desktop announcement leading up to VMworld

I'll be leaving for VMworld tomorrow morning but I wanted to give you one last pre-show blog post.  Last week, HP had an announcement about our desktop to data center virtualization portfolio for VMware View.  This isn't an area that I've spent a lot of time on in the past other than looking at our storage for our reference architectures so yesterday I grabbed a couple of experts to help me understand the announcement.

The end result is this podcast with Christian Jones from our thin client team and Dan Nordhues from our converged infrastructure team.  Christian helped me understand our thin client portfolio and Dan discussed the latest reference architectures for VMware View and also Citrix XenDesktop on VMware vSphere.  Here's the podcast:

Let me point you to the hp.com pages and white papers for the reference architectures (RA) I discussed with Dan:

  • ProLiant Gen 8 Enterprise RA for VMware View  | hp.com page | whitepaper

Very interesting post..excited to see how companies will adopt virtual desktop solutions in the near future. The savings they can make on I.T maintenance costs is huge and they're operational efficiency will definately increase. Get adopting guys, there are plenty of cloud computing services out there!
