What's new with iLO

Last week I had a blog post that included ProLiant Gen8 teardown videos.  About 5 minutes after filming those videos I recorded a podcast with Adrian Kasbergen to learn about what is new with iLO Management Engine. As a storage guy, I really appreciated the information as it helped me to better understand the innovations built into ProLiant Gen8 that help make deploying, managing, and supporting our servers even easier.

AHS-4_Capture.pngAdrian walked me through four areas of where HP has brought some significant new features to iLO.  The areas we talked about are:

  1. Intelligent Provisioning
  2. Agentless management
  3. Active health system (shown in the screen shot)
  4. Remote support

Might the new iLO have any support for showing information on 3rd party cards? even HP OEM'd cards? e.g. my new servers(G7) have both Qlogic FC HBAs and Qlogic 10GbE NICs (both HP branded), but iLO shows nothing on either, it's like they don't exist.

Not a new iLO issue mind you, but would be nice to get iLO to acknowledge all of the cards in the system.

iLO rocks otherwise though, especially with the advanced pack.

The last time I used Dell gear (R610 - so not TOO long ago) they still didn't have the ability to remotely turn on/off the UID light!
