StoreOnce and EMC Data Domain performance flap
In today's post, I want to address the flap that EMC created last week questioning whether or not the HP StoreOnce B6200 is a single system. Here's a podcast of my thoughts here (which you can also read by clicking through to the blog post).
More Discover session highlights: From 3PAR guarantees to cloud computing and big data
Can it be? Already a week since Discover? To wrap things up, here are some highlights from storage-focused sessions I attended on Discover Day 4, including technical session with customer use cases on the HP 3PAR Get Thin and Get Virutal Guarantee, a Master the Cloud session led by Brad Parks and a session on HP Storage and big data with an SMB focus.
HP Labs talks StoreOnce and more
Last week at HP Discover we announced enhancements to our HP StoreOnce family. We first announced StoreOnce deduplication - based on technology from HP Labs - at our HP event in Las Vegas two years ago. We've been on a continuing push to deliver on our strategy of a single deduplication technology across the enterprise.
I remembered that in June 2010 I did a podcast with Mark Lillibridge - Mark is a Principal Research Scientist with HP Labs and he talked about some of the software innovations from HP Labs that are in StoreOnce. The podcast was discarded when we moved to a new hosting platform but luckily, I'm a pack rat and was able to find this and pull it out of the archives. Here's the discussion I had with Mark in my ATSB #23 podcast (from June 2010).
I have another podcast to share today - in it I talk to Steve Johnson about some of the challenges that existed with deduplication and how HP StoreOnce is addressing them.
