Taking center stage at IBC2012: how to protect and archive digital content

Simon Watkins.jpgWelcome back guest blogger Simon Watkins, who is heading to Amsterdam this weekIBClogo.png to attend the International Broadcasting Convention. It seems that more than ever before, much of the pre-show buzz this year is about how best to protect and archive digital content, the lifeblood of the media and entertainment industry. Here’s why the best answer is LTO-5 with LTFS-based solutions. The blog also offers a great list of links to much more information on LTO with LTFS.

HP Storage integration with Windows Server 2012

Yesterday I did a podcast introducing Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (WS2012).  Today I want to dive down into some of the storage integration we have with WS2012.  I have four videos, each is pretty short, that will give you a good picture of that integration.

First up is a short video that gives an overview. This is with Parissa Mohamadi - Parissa is our Microsoft Solution Manager for HP Storage.

I also have three demo videos that show the integration with WS2012 and HP Storage.  The demos I have are:

  • Storage space reclamation with UNMAP
  • Offload Data Transfer (ODX) with HP 3PAR
  • Storage management user interface with WS2012

The video I'm sharing here is a single video with embedded links to these three demo videos and the overview Parissa did.

Microsoft announces Windows Server 2012

introducing-windows-server-2012-microsoft-press.jpgI think a broke a record today from recording a podcast to posting it.  I finished recording a podcast with Brad Kirby, Group Manager for our Microsoft Products Partnership Team at HP, talking about today's announcement from Microsoft of the highly anticipated Windows Server 2012.

Later in the week, I'll share some video demos I have that shows how HP Storage integrates with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 but for now, this podcast with Brad is a very good overview of what's coming with Windows Server 2012.  Here's the podcast with Brad.

Andre Carpenter - a new VMware focused blogger

Andre Carpenter.jpgAt VMworld, I got to catch up with Andre Carpenter.  Andre is an Aussie who works as a consultant, focused on VMware and storage.  I virtually met Andre about 18 months ago when he sent me an instant message and introduced himself to me.

Andre has a couple of blog posts he's done on our Transforming IT blog - the first one he did was titled, "The big data era: The time to tame the big data beast is now".  He just posted another blog tonight on the heals of the podcast I did with him.  This one has an interesting title, "Would you like a side of Disaster Recovery with that"?

So by way of introduction, here's the short podcast I did with Andre.
