Oh no, not another hyper-converged history lesson!

By Janet Runberg, SDS Sales Enablement Manager, HP Storage

HC_1.JPGIf you're anything like me, you have about 3 minutes per week that you can dedicate to learning the history of… well, anything. Make that 2 minutes. So I'll keep this short.

Our customers have been wondering, what is a hyper-converged system and how did it evolve out of traditional servers and storage? Let me explain...

IT’s what’s for dinner: salad and hyper-convergence

By Kate Davis, WW Marketing Manager, HP Software-Defined Storage   @KateAtHP

TossedSalad.jpgWell, I’ve been asked to teach a couple of hyper-convergence crash courses this month. So I’ve been thinking about how to approach the subject. My audience is not technical so I needed to come up with a concept that’s relatable.

I’ve come up with salad.

Join me as I use a new approach to explaining Traditional IT, Converged Infrastructure and Hyper-converged.

A bright future - consider joining me!

Earlier this week I had a blog post talking about the HP Industry Analyst Summit.  The next day, David Scott, SVP and GM of HP Storage presented in a breakout session.  I know what his presentation covered and we'll be hitting many of those topics here in the next several months.  Topics that you'll hear more about and that David discussed were:

  • Converged Storage (see the blog post for more details about each of these bullets)
  • Storage for software defined data centers
  • Flash and SSD
  • Information retention and cloud storage

HP Storage Blitz - Mar8 2013.jpgI told you how excited I am about the future in my last HP Summit blog post and I really am.  We have an unbelievable management team, support from Meg Whitman, and management like Dave Donatelli and David Scott who understand technology and are committed to storage leadership for the new style of IT.

We are always looking for great people and if you're a storage expert, consider joining me at HP.  We are hiring and just to whet your appetite, I asked Anita Filip (@Anita4HP) to suggest a few open jobs that I could include.  Checkout this PDF she created with just a few of the hot (U.S.) jobs we have and check out for other jobs if one of these isn't a fit for you.

I'm having a great time here, I think you will too and the future is bright!

HP Industry Analyst Summit and Converged Infrastructure

IAS image.jpgToday kicked off our HP Industy Analyst Summit - a gather of executives across HP with over 300 industry analysts.  I understand today also included some financial analysts.  I'm not there but have attended in the past.  Compared to years past, my Twitter stream is filled with comments from attendees using the #HPSummit hashtag. Very cool to see and get a good sense of the event from afar.

Converged Infrastructure, front and center!

Dave Donatelli was on the agenda early today and talked about HP Converged Infrastructure - a strategy that we publicly announced back in the fall of 2009 but actually was in the works for several years at HP.  Dave definitely made it happen and solidified it but even before that, dating back to 2005, our enterprise business was focused on Adaptive Infrastructure - a pre-cursor to today's HP Converged Infrastructure strategy.

I don't know exactly what Dave said today but he talked about Converged Infrastructure originating with HP and now being copied by several competitors.  One tweet says, "HP: Thank us for the term Converged Infrastructure".  And to that I must agree.
