How are you tackling enterprise archival storage challenges?

By Simon Watkins, WW Product Marketing Manager, Backup, Recovery & Archive (BURA), HP Storage

ArchiveImage1.jpgThe challenges of managing multi-petabyte data archives just keep on coming. Unpredictable data growth. 24x7 availability demand. Infrastructure sprawl. Increasing data breach threats. And the need to contain costs. All combine to make delivering a robust enterprise data protection and retention service increasingly problematic.

The HP StoreEver ESL G3 Tape Library offers a powerful combination of capabilities designed to help you meet these challenges head on—including scalable capacity, enhanced availability and reliability, simplified yet powerful management, and enterprise class security and compliance. These capabilities were further strengthened at HP Discover earlier this month when we announced new ESL G3 enhancements for even faster archive and long-term retention. The ESL G3 has increased its performance per frame by up to 2x, now supporting up to 18 tape drives per Control Module and 24 tape drives per Expansion Module for higher performance per library. Let’s take a closer look at how the ESL G3 can help you protect and archive data and content in large, complex SAN environments.

Data protection: what works with what and how do I connect it all together?

By Mark Fleischhauer, HP StoreEver Tape Storage Solutions Engineering Manager

ElectronicsKit.jpgBuilding and configuring a data protection solution can be a daunting task. You need to figure out what works with what, how to configure it and how to architect a solution that solves the problem you have in your business. HP has everything you need to design, configure and implement your solution.

Let’s take a look at how we can help you identify all the piece parts, connect them all together, and solve your data protection challenges. (And you’ll understand how it just might remind me of my first electronics kit.)

The decision tree for archiving data

For this week’s tape-focused blog, we welcome Dave Thomson, Senior VP Sales and Marketing at QStar Technologies, an HP AllianceOne Data Agile Partner.

Because HP and QStar Technologies have jointly sold archiving solutions for over two decades, we offer you a QStar_logo.jpgwealth of knowledge in this area. Many users understand they have a need to archive data for compliance reasons, to improve data preservation or to reduce storage costs. Both HP and QStar supply and support a range of data storage technologies, including tape, disk, object storage and cloud storage. Here’s a look at our decision tree for archiving data. Let’s go.

Archiving with HP StoreAll Storage: An answer to rampant unstructured data growth

By Stephen Bacon, Senior Manager, File and Object Storage Product Management and Marketing, HP Storage

Row_1_StoreAll_Fam_High_Density_28220x160_29_tcm245_1726402_tcm245_1611928_tcm245-1726402.jpgA frequently cited challenge by large organizations is the rampant growth of unstructured data. In the past, a common response has been to simply throw more primary storage at the problem. However, that’s usually a temporary bandage at best and wholly ineffectual at worst.

Why archiving instead
Archiving is an alternative response (and one that I strongly recommend for every large organization). Archiving enables you to get your arms around rampant unstructured data growth. However, it does much more than just that. It can enable you to increase overall data center economics and efficiency by offloading primary storage and easing pressure on your backup windows. It can also improve your data governance and risk management. Having the right archiving target is key to how much benefit you will realize. I believe that general purpose storage is the wrong target for storing archive data within a large organization. Instead, I believe that purpose-built archive storage is the right target. That is where HP StoreAll Storage comes in. Here's how and why - including the details on new enhancements.

Data retention with HP StoreEasy and iTernity iCAS

You ever have a long to-do list and not getting to something on it?  My wife has lots of experience with me on this!  Today I have a ChalkTalk that has been on my to-do list to talk about for 18 months.  I met the guys at our partner iTernity at HP DIscover in Vienna which would have been December 2011.  I got a look at what they were doing and knew it was a great solution for data retention and archiving and that I wanted to talk about it on ATSB.

I had it as a goal to do something with them at the three HP Discovers since (two in Las Vegas and one in Frankfurt) but I got so busy with our bloggers that I didn't have time.  I at least stopped by their booth at Discover this past June and got a demo of iCAS, their software that integrates with our HP Storage portfolio.

Today I have a ChalkTalk focused on the solution we have with iTernity iCAS and HP StoreEasy.  I think the ChalkTalk tells the story so check it out.
