Deploy HP StoreOnce VSA from VMware vCenter demo

One of my favorite types of videos to do is a demo video.  I still love the ChalkTalks and ShortTakes but demos are great because they really show how something works.

Today I want to share with you a demo I have.  HP OneView for VMware vCenter (OV4VC for short) integrates the manageability features of HP OneView, HP ProLiant, HP BladeSystem, HP Virtual Connect and HP Storage into the VMware vCenter Server console. By integrating HP Converged Infrastructure management features directly into VMware vCenter Server, administrators get insight and control of their HP infrastructure supporting their virtualized infrastructure  - reducing the time it takes to make important change decisions, manage planned and unplanned downtime and do lifecycle management.

In OV4VC v 7.5, which was just released late last week, we have introduced the ability to deploy HP StoreOnce VSA from a vCenter console.  With a few simple clicks, you can tranform existing server capacity into HP Software-Defined Storage for data protection. The process to do it is very simple and similar to deploying StoreVirtual VSA with vCenter (see the blog post with a demo I did of that a few months ago).

Demo of new HP 3PAR StoreServ Management Console

Yesterday Ivan Iannaccone had a really good post talking about our new 3PAR next-generation management platform, 3PAR StoreServ Management Console or SSMC. His post had a lot of detail and sceenshots that I think gave a great view into SSMC. But if a picture is worth a thousand words then a demo video must be worth a million.

So today I have a demo video of SSMC.  In the video I show a lot of the things Ivan talked about in his post but for me, this demo of SSMC made if real and understandable. I'll embed the video here but I do suggest watching it on YouTube, change it to HD and watch it full screen. So check it out!

New flash features with latest HP 3PAR OS 3.2.1

We released HP 3PAR OS 3.2.1 a few weeks ago but haven't publicly announced what that OS release brings to HP

3PAR StoreServ. Since the enhancements are substantial, I'll talk today at a high-level and over the next few days I'll have some of those other subject matter experts posting articles to go deeper on some of the news.  At a high level, we announced:

  • Adaptive Flash Cache for performance acceleration with read cache extension
  • Express Writes is another enhancement that improves latency without additional hardware
  • Flash Advisor tool kit helps smooth the transition to flash
  • 3PAR Thin Deduplication is now supported across the HP 3PAR StoreServ portfolio of 7000 and 10000 systems

Along with the ChalkTalk, there's also a demo video of Adaptive Flash Cache so head over to the full blog post to check that out.

HP StoreFront Analytics Pack for VMware vCOPs demo

I'm at VMworld and enjoying being with the great group of people that belong to the VMware community.  I've only been here for a couple of days and there's already been five or six community gathers I've attended - and the passion for what people do, sharing with each other and the fellowship we share is amazing.

So I want to get back to that today so my blog post will be a short one.  Leading up to VMworld, we did some announcements.  One of those was integration we'll have with HP 3PAR StoreServ and vCenter Operations or vCOPs which is call HP StoreFront Analytics Pack for vCOPs.  I have a blog post that included a ChalkTalk where I gave an overview of this.

Here's the demo I have showing the integration with vCOPs. I recommend opening the demo directly on YouTube, change the setting to the HD version, and watch it full screen.

HP Data Protector 8 at HP Discover

The other day I had a "snippet" from our HP Discover Blogger coffee talk with David Scott and Siamak Nazari.  I'll have a few more podcasts from the coffee talk and their will be more details they gave on HP 3PAR - some really interesting stuff that I'm excited to share.   I also had Stephen Spellicy, Director of Product Management for HP Autonomy Enterprise Backup Solutions with us.  At HP Discover, we announced HP Data Protector 8 and Stephen answered a few questions that the bloggers had.

What's new with HP Data Protector 8?

It's a bit of a catch-22 that HP is such a big company. We included the new Data Protector 8 news in our press conference but there was so much other news that I was pretty sure most people didn't really get what we announced.  So before I share with you the audio from the coffee talk where Stephen answered questions from the bloggers, here's the highlights of what's new:
