HP Enterprise Services – Storage Services
By Tim Bowers, Product Marketing Manager - Storage Services, HP Enterprise Services
A lot has been going on over the past year in the world of storage within HP Enterprise Services! EDS, an HP Company, officially became the Enterprise Services division of HP in September of 2009. We have successfully completed the integration of key HP technologies into our storage service offerings ahead of schedule and are poised to bring unmatched value for companies looking for a storage management partner.
Since our merger, the most common question I get is, "What storage services does Enterprise Services provide?" We manage our client's storage environments on an ongoing basis. Our clients pay a monthly per-GB charge based on variable capacity and we handle the daily complexities of storage provisioning, problem & change management, monitoring & reporting, performance & capacity planning, etc... We can also bundle (or unbundle) the cost of hardware, software, and facilities into a single per-GB unit price. This allows our clients to focus on more strategic issues of their business while we handle the storage infrastructure in predictable, all inclusive, usage-based price.
The next questions I hear is, "So what can you do now that you are fully integrated with HP?" First and foremost, HP can now provide the full stack of storage capabilities: hardware, software, management tools, warranty services, and an expanded breadth & depth of storage administration services. This allows us to provide better bundled pricing and eliminate compatibility issues throughout the environment. Both our service division and storage technology-divisions have benefited from collaboration over the past year and we are seeing ideas reach the market faster. We are also seeing increased co-development on shared roadmaps between our storage service development teams and our product developing coworkers.
In the coming weeks, look for a follow-up blog entry where I will go into more detail about the structure of our storage services.
(Editor's Note: Please welcome Tim and our HP Enterprise Services team to our HP StorageWorks blog. I know I'm looking forward to learning more about our Storage Services from HP Enterprise Services)
