Around the Storage Block Blog
Find out about all things data storage from Around the Storage Block at HP Communities. - user support community

I'm back from a couple of weeks of traveling. The my first stop was to visit some family in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I knew that the founder and community manager of, a user support community, is in the area too.

My friend and former colleague Marc Farley introduced me to Richard Siemers a few years ago at SNW in Dallas.  I also got to spend some time with Richard at HP Discover in Las Vegas earlier this year. Knowing that I would visit my family some time soon, I had the thought of doing a podcast with Richard the next time I found myself in DFW. is like many other support forums but this one is really a user community.  I'm sure there are a few others that join in but I'm always impressed by communities where users share knowledge with each other.  In the podcast, Richard and I talk about the 3PAR forum.

HP Guided Troubleshooting

Guiding Troubleshooting.pngBack in the dog-days of summer, we had a HP Storage Expert Day in our online support community.  I'm probably the last guy you  want troubleshooting problems but I actually did jump in and answer a few questions.  If you have HP Storage and haven't utilized the community-based support, you really should check it out and give it a try.

One of the things I learned about HP Guided Troubleshooting.  What is it?

  • It is an online self-help tool that provides guides with quick and simple step by step instructions to find solutions to a whole host of technical issues.
  • An enhanced table of contents and ability to search by keywords will help you find solutions to various server and storage related technical issues.
  • It is an efficient and effective reservoir of guides that can help lead you to answers about various server or storage related issues.

While no tool like this will solve every problem, I think it's a great starting point and I'm overdue telling you about it.  If you want to check it out for yourself, you can start at

HP Storage Expert Day coming July 24!

My friends in HP Technology Services beat me to the punch - thanks a lot John!  John has a blog post over on the Transforming IT Blog talking about the HP Storage Expert Day up on July 24, starting at 7 AM EDT.

What is an Expert Day?

The HP Storage Expert Day is an event when HP product team members and other employees join our online HP Support Forums to answer your toughest technical questions, even for products that are out of warranty. Expert Days give you a chance to talk directly with the people who designed and made the HP products you’re using, or who wrote the manuals for them.

Check it out now!

If you don't already have a log-in, you'll need an HP Passport ID.  Note we also use HP Passport ID on our blogs and in fact I have one - CalvinZ.  It's also used in other places like our Software Depot when you want to download free software or our Business Support when you download user manuals - so get an HP Passport!

You can check out the storage support forum any time between now and the HP Storage Expert Day!  Our Community Manager Kevin_Paul also has more info about the Expert Day that you can check out.
