More on the HP StoreOnce Catalyst and Veeam Integration

Last year at VeeamOn, I jokingly asked a Veeam exec when would we have StoreOnce Catalyst support with Veeam. I got a sly smile in response and I knew what that meant!

The wait is over!

I won't spend a lot of time talking about what this means for our customers - Srik covered that very well in a post he did last week titled Veeam integrates with HP StoreOnce Catalyst to deliver enhanced data protect. I want to share a short video with my friend at Veeam Rick Vanover - the Rickatron! I took a break from being a one man band with my videos and drafted Radhika Mitra to interview Rick. It's a short video but they do a great job describing the benefits of this integration.

Veeam integrates with HP StoreOnce Catalyst to deliver enhanced data protection

Advancing the data protection your agile, virtualized data center really needs

As long-time technology partners, HP and Veeam have one goal: to enhance and deliver data protection for virtual environments that really works. Veeam integration with HP 3PAR StoreServ and StoreVirtual snapshots has been available for many years. You might want to check out this blog with an in-depth demo on HP and Veeam integration designed to protect virtual environments.  Today we take another significant step in advancing data protection with the announcement of Veeam Availability Suite v9 with HP StoreOnce Catalyst. Before we get into the specifics of the integration, let’s take a step back to understand why good data protection is crucial as data centers become more agile and virtualized.

High availability for hyper-convergence: it pays to think ahead

By Janet Runberg, SDS Sales Enablement Manager, HP Storage

We all know you can’t prevent data loss or system failures. What you can do is build increased availability into your IT infrastructure with an efficient backup system. Your best bet is to find an integrated, open platform solution that’s fully supported by the vendors, so you don’t have to suffer through testing interoperability of systems during the deployment phase.

WebinarJ.jpgDon't miss the upcoming webinar from HP and Veeam that addresses high availability and efficiency in the virtualized data center. Bring along someone from the procurement team. Register for the live August 18 webinar at 11:00 am EDT: Veeam + HP CS 200-HC StoreVirtual: Availability for Hyper-Converged Systems

Soccer_Image.jpegIn Italy, the most popular sport is soccer. Everyone follows the championships. Even if you’re not that interested, it’s impossible to avoid the activity that surrounds them—and this includes the Monday coach. This is when you go to any office water cooler or other gathering spot on a Monday during soccer season and everybody there seems to think that they can do a better job than any of the real coaches. (If you are a U.S. football fan, you might recognize this common phenomenon as the Monday morning quarterback!)

Data availability reminds me of these endless discussions. Everyone thinks they have the perfect plan to solve any availability problem, and they refuse to even look at other ideas. When it comes to protecting data, however, the problem is that everyone is correct AND wrong at the same time! Let me explain...

HP Storage and Veeam integration demo

It's BURA Sunday and normally I have my team of experts doing these posts on Sunday but this week, they needed a break. The timing was perfect because I just finished editing a video demo that I did when I was at VeeamOn a few weeks ago.

The demo shows the integration between HP Storage - StoreVirtual, 3PAR StoreServ, StoreOnce, and StoreEver - to use snapshots for high availability, backup and archive.  Here's a summary of that:

  • Instant recovery from StoreVirtual and 3PAR of virtual machines, files and more
  • Backup to disk and offsite replication (for disaster recovery) to StoreOnce
  • Archive backup to StoreEver tape for longer term retention.

John DeFrees from my Technical Marketing team walks me through the demo and explains the integration points.
