Small business borrowing adds up to around $1trn, according to the US-based Small Business Administration, with friends and family and banks the most likely sources for most small firms. But bank lending is becoming more constrained, and the Breedon Report, published in March by the UK government, has highlighted a large and growing finance gap for small and medium-sized enterprises.
