Deskpro EP Chasis Fan port question

I have a P3-500 I want to put in my Deskpro EP. It works great except that there's no CPU FAN power outlet on the MB.

The CPU (Slot1) has an OEM fan with a smaller 3 pin power connector.

The MB has a 4 pin connector (only 3 pins on it though). Same style as what you'd find on a power supply.

My question is: If I change the connector on the CPU fan to match the MB chasis fan port will I have any problems?

Re: Deskpro EP Chasis Fan port question

Is there another fan in the computer pulling warm air out of the space around the processor? If so, I would suggest replacing the fan with a large heat sink rather than modifying the wiring. When things have different connectors, it's usually for good reason. I can't answer your question as to whether or not you'd experience a problem modifying your wiring, but I've been successfully running a PIII/550 without a CPU fan for months...and that's in a cramped SFF case.
