HP locations and job postings

I get a lot of questions about locations of HP jobs.  When you look at our job postings, you might wonder how to tell what location(s) the job is in, or whether jobs are open in your area.  Here’s a short guide on how to tell.

When you want to see what jobs are available, conduct your search for what type of job, and indicate which country’s jobs you want to see.  In your results, you’ll see some jobs that have a specific city listed and some that list only the country (i.e. United States).  If you look closely, you’ll see that some have a ++ symbol next to the city.

Specific city (i.e. United States – Palo Alto) means that this is where the job is located, it’s typically not negotiable.  That said, if there’s a job that is a perfect fit but it’s not located in your town or someplace you’re willing to relocate, don’t rule it out just yet.  In some cases the hiring manager may be open to other locations, especially if you are based in a city that is one of HP’s major locations.

Specific city ++  (i.e. United States – Palo Alto ++) means that if you click further, you will see other locations available for that job.

No city, only a country is given, (i.e. United States) means that the location isn’t set.  These are positions that may be open to telecommuting, or may have too many location possibilities for the manager to list.

We’re upgrading our job application system in a few months and I’m looking forward to the improvements you’ll see.  In our test environment, we’re looking at different ways to make the location of each job as clear as possible, including indicating whether the job needs to be performed from a specific location, or if that’s flexible.

When you search for jobs, how much does job location factor into what you’ll consider?  Use the comments to let me know.

I read the information, but am looking for the opportunities.

Anonymous(anon) | ‎08-13-2008 03:17 PM

I earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Oklahoma State in 1983 in 4 years and a M.S. in Management at Purdue Krannert in 1985. I remember being invited to dinner by a recruiter from HP and was told not to get dressed up, that is not the HP culture. I was raised to dress for success and wore a sport coat and tie I think. I never heard fron HP again. I am now 46, been in legal HE... for 25 years, tried my own business, SAM Walton was the richest back then, I rented VCR movies retailing in 1985, mom-pops are all gone. I still seek the big $ but have spent my adult life around liars, scammers, identity theives, criminal judges and lawyers- in my family. Never been around honest, trustworthy, professionals, including those people who grant business licenses in real estate and securities in Kansas my home state.  I guess I have never trusted any one or work place from too many horror stories I have heard beginning in HS. Well visit my web site www.LearnABetterLife.com, HP and me should do some stuff.

searching for job not able to submit resume through online

| ‎08-25-2008 10:31 PM

Hi Shwetha, If you have any technical difficulties when applying, you can submit feedback to the website and someone will look into the problem.  If the issue is with a specific position, include the requisition number.

You can find the URL to report a technical problem under the FAQs on the jobs@hp website, or this direct link should work.

George,

It's hard to say what didn't work out, but I do want to comment on a couple of great points.

I recognize a quote I really like on your website as being from singer/songwriter James Taylor -- "The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time."  I definately agree, and is why I really emphasize the importance of choosing the right company and opportunity for you as an individual (and vice versa).  People give their best performance when they enjoy what they do.

Second comment is about trust -- for me, being at companies that I can trust has been important and is a good criteria to use when choosing an employer.

Keep in mind that a lot of people are interested in working at HP, so application volume is very high and unfortunately I can't respond to individual interest via this blog.

The best way to apply is to visit the Jobs link on hp's website and to submit your resume there and to apply for specific jobs that meet your skills and qualifications.

Hi There :smileyhappy:

I have checked the website to see what opportunities are there in Ireland and unfortunately there is error :smileysad:

error '80004005'

/jobsathp/Includes/definition.asp, line 92

Anyhow, I have a good track record with the company and would like to pursue further employment with HP.

Currently with Vodafone on a contract (maternity Leave) but prefer the HP's approach to business.

I am Project Analyst and focused on Process Improvement in Service Delivery. Incident, Problem and Change Management ITIL/ITSM, 6sigma, Diploma in Project Management and similar.

Do you think that there may be some place for my skill set?

My experience tells me yes but I am uncertain since the EDS takeover.

Many companies have frozen their employment activities.

Is this the case with HP ?

Sincerely Yours

Olaf Derwojed

| ‎10-14-2008 10:04 AM

Hi Olaf, we'll check into the technical issue.

Yes, you are correct - HP hires skill sets such as yours, no change to that due to EDS.  HP still has many positions to fill, employment activities are not frozen.  Hiring at the company is done carefully to make sure that it's in line with the businesses' workforce plans.  And I find that a lot of people like the way HP conducts business, it's one of the things that makes HP different.

Anonymous(anon) | ‎11-15-2008 02:07 AM

I'm getting the same error:

error '80004005'

I have been solicited by two recruiters for a remote technical writing position in Houston, TX. There are supposedly 24 positions to be filled in the next 2 or three weeks.

I was briefly able to access the HP job listings, ran a search, and got no results. Is there a way to find out if this job is actually posted?

Anonymous(anon) | ‎01-08-2009 06:22 AM

error '80004005'

/jobsathp/Includes/definition.asp, line

this is the message I am receiving when looking for you jobs.

there was a previous statement concerning so many people wanting to work for HP.  My concern, before and upgrade was done on you website you had 1000's of jobs listed which had been on there for at least 2 years and were never filled.  I would apply after 4 to 6 months I would receive an email stating that the position was no longer available it, however it was never filled  How many people do you actually hire from your website?

| ‎01-15-2009 03:51 AM

LM, the short answer is "a lot" -- the website is one of the largest sources of hires.  While some positions may get cancelled for one reason or another, most are filled.  In some cases, one posting may represent multiple positions to be filled.

If you get the error code, delete cookies in your browser, close it and reopen; then go back to HP's jobs website.  That should work.

Hi Step K,

I was a former employee of HP Canada. I got an email from HP Human Resources saying that I may be qualified for a Requisition # ....., Job Title and to apply as soon as possible since the hiring process is under way. The link to go to was

hrcms01.atl.hp.com/.../column_page_0005.htm

This is the same URL for opportunities for HP Employees tab on the HP job site. However I am unable to access the above link. it times out

I am also unable to search the requisition on the general   HP jobs site. Can you Please help me on this matter since time is running out for me to make the submission. Appreciated.

| ‎03-19-2009 10:00 PM

Hi Roger,

Sorry about that - that link goes directly to the internal jobs website, which would only work if you were still at HP.

Post a comment with the req number and I'll let the recruiting team know about the problem.  I moderate all comments before they show up on the site, so if you can include your email address, I can share that with the recruiting team too, and I'll not post the comment on the board.

Thanks,

Steph K

rthiaga | ‎03-19-2009 11:34 PM

Hi  Steph K,

Thanks for the quick response. The details are

requisition # 288980, ITO Service Delivery Cons IV.

and they have asked me to respond urgently.

I would appreciate if you could forward my email address to them regarding this. Regards

Roger

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the additional details.  The position is posted as internal only at this time, which is why you couldn't find it on the external jobs website.  Your profile was in the system as "internal" candidate, from your previous employment.  Since you're not internal, the system won't let you view the job.  The recruiter has fixed your profile to remove the "internal" flag, so you won't get notices of internal-only openings, but your profile will still be in the system.

Some positions change to external after internal candidates are considered, so my advice is to keep an eye on the external openings.

Thanks,

Steph K

Hello, My name is Vivek Pachauri and I am a graduate from University of Maryland, I was just curious about job opportunities at HP and after following a couple of links I stumbled upon this blog. There are a couple of things I would like to humbly mention, first of all, both the 'job' link on the HP's main page and feedback link mentioned above are broken and are giving "error '80004005'

/jobsathp/Includes/definition.asp, line 92" error and secondly,

(second issue deleted by Steph K)

Hi Vivek, thanks for your comments.  Re: the error issue, it's a known issue, but still awaiting a fix.  See my post on Errors on jobs website for workarounds.

Re: the second issue, I've deleted that here, but thank you for bringing that one up, I will send to the right people to look into further.  It's a very good point!

I am a registered nurse, I have an  associates and presently in the BA of nursing program. I have years of experience in emergency and industrial nursing. Will HP have positions in employee health for nurses?

| ‎08-18-2009 08:50 PM

Hi Carolynn,

Not that I'm aware of.  That seems like a role where HP would typically partner with a service provider.
