Get to know the Sales Operations organization

 

Have you ever wondered how HP manages to sell products across the globe to customers and partners of all sizes? Sales Operations is a big piece of that puzzle.

 

The Sales Operations organization (or “Sales Ops”, as those in the know call it) is the group that enables HP to deliver an unrivaled buying/selling experience across all channels by empowering customers, partners, and sales to win and drive profitable growth for HP.

 

As our fearless leader Dave Ornelas says, "We provide a branded HP experience across the world."

 

Why is that? Because we support all business groups at HP, from printers to storage to PCs to software - everywhere. 


We have teams in three regions: The Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan… yeah, we know that Japan is in Asia). Most of our teams are based in Romania, the US, Mexico, Romania, China, and France. But we are truly a global organization with employees all over the world.

 

The regional teams support our sales teams and partners by performing activities such as quoting, pricing, order management, operational account support and the all-important partner programs. So, every time a partner or a customer needs a particular server or PC configuration or submits an order for a few printers and networking gear, we make sure it’s processed accurately and on time. And we are there in case they have questions about status or want to make changes.


We also have quite a few folks in worldwide teams. We take care of the processes and systems that support the buying experience. Our process and capabilities teams are developing the next generation of Customer and Partner Relationship Management systems, as well as top-notch eCommerce, order management and compensation processes. We like to spend our days developing new and better ways to make it easier for customer and partners to buy and easier for sales representatives to sell—in any channel and environment they want to do it.

Sales Ops workplace culture is driven by satisfying our internal and external clients 

 

Since we are such a global team, our environment is very diverse, but one thing that characterizes us all is that we are passionate about our customers and passionate about HP as a whole.

 

Many of the Sales Ops employees work with customer and partners each and every day. We look for individuals that go beyond mere customer service and make the needs of customers and partners their passion. Only a few teams at HP handle all products and services through all “routes to market” (ex. direct and through partners). We work with many teams internally to make sure that these needs are adequately considered and solved.

 

We also look for folks who are comfortable in an environment of complexity. Selling tablets isn’t the same as selling SaaS (Software as a service). Setting up a self-service eCommerce store for a public school system isn’t the same as helping a partner sell to a Global Fortune 100 company. But we work to deliver a true OneHP experience.

 

While the Sales Ops environment may sound intimidating, fear not. New team members are onboarded through a mix of training and a buddy system. There’s plenty of volunteer and team building opportunities to get to know your team at a more personal level. We also make time for some fun as well as many teams host off-site activities at least once a quarter. And in the main hubs, there’s often a big party at the end of the year.
