Extreme IT Makeover for Urban ArtWorks is Coming Soon!

Coffee Coaching’s Extreme IT Makeover team has wrapped up the filming of another amazing makeover. The makeover recipient, Urban ArtWorks, is a Seattle based not-for-profit organization that works to empower young people through professional opportunities in the arts. With help from Intel and Arterian, the Extreme IT Makeover, a joint program between HP and Microsoft, was able to provide Urban ArtWorks with a brand new IT infrastructure so they can better fulfill their mission and help more Seattle youth.

Founded in 1995, Urban ArtWorks has fostered a new sense of self-esteem, self-motivation, and self-sufficiency for over 5,000 youth through pre-employment training and subsidized employment. Urban ArtWorks provides a safe and liberated zone for under serviced youth with opportunities for technical skill advancement, quality job opportunities, training, positive expression, and personal growth. They do this through the creation of public art murals, having completed over 400 murals since their founding. Before the Extreme IT Makeover, Urban ArtWorks was doing all of this with very limited IT. They had no server and only a few pieces of client equipment with no centralized storage or backup. In order to complete everything they often relied on employees’ personal equipment. When the youth were there to help in planning or creating murals, it was difficult to for them to research images for inspiration.

Thanks to the Extreme IT Makeover, Urban ArtWorks received a brand new IT infrastructure, designed and installed by Jamison West Founder and CEO of Arterian, and his team, with software and hardware donated by Microsoft, HP, and Intel. This makeover provides Urban Artworks with their first server, a HP ProLiant Server running Windows Server 2012 Essentials and enable a move to an improved application they use to manage their operations and creative process. They also received Office 365, enabling them to have email, shared calendar and conferencing in addition to the ability to support their website, HP laptops and desktops powered by Intel vPro technology that the youth will be able to use for research and design, and many other great IT improvements. Not only will this makeover help the Urban ArtWorks organization, but it will also help to increase the empowerment and education of the Seattle youth through IT improvements.
