Get to know the HP Rack & Power Solutions

Stefanie Hansel is the responsible product manager at HP for Rack & Power Solutions, covering HP Europe, Middle East & Africa. Today she'll give you an overview on the base of every IT - the Rack + Power Solution Products in the HP Portfolio.

The IT-Systems as well as the companies of your customers need to adapt constantly to new market conditions or technical changes. HP Rack & Power Solutions are the Foundation of your IT, whether it's a single Server or a Data Center.

When developing these solutions HP incorporates the current and future requirements for the integration of HP Servers, HP Storage Solutions and HP Management Software, such as the HP System Insight Manager. Despite the HP System integration, the solutions were built upon Industry standards to ensure the compatibility With 3rd party systems and to protect customer investments.

The HP Rack & Power Solutions are the fundamental to create a high available, energy efficient and open IT infrastructure.

Those solutions are of course adapted to higher demands, like power supply, cooling and IT environments With high density such as blades or clusters. Our comprehensive product portfolio covers all demands, starting With single servers up to large data centers.

Whether the delivery is without equipment or as pre-configured rack-system: the universal HP 10000 G2 Rack series guarantees maximum Stability and flexibility. The new cost-efficient v142 Rack offers the most value-add for customers not needing CTO-functionality, means customers that install the IT equipment into their racks in the data center.

You can expand your rack-solution based on your requirements. For this a large variety of rack options are available from A to Z: Rack Console, Side Panels, Grounding Kit, Cabling, Lighting and many more.

Overheating is the reason for a considerable number of server downtimes. Due to a higher density of Server and Storage units the generation of heat per Rack is increasing, which leads to higher standards when it comes to cooling. HP pursues an overall approach when it comes to power and cooling.

The airflow of the industry standard based Servers proceeds from the front to the back. The Design of the HP Rack & Power Solutions is for optimal support of this front-to-back airflow. Racks With perforated doors at the front and in the back, optimized cable management as well as blank panels avoid the circulation of hot air in the rack.

For installations With high server-density and high heat evolution, HP designed the Modular Cooling System, called MCS. The HP MCS G2 represents the second generation of water-cooled Rack solutions With a closed air circuit, an efficient control and cooling capacity up to 35kW which can be allocated to two racks.

For a higher server and storage density per Rack a higher power capacity is necessary. A company can't afford to lose Data or to have a breakdown of the IT environment due to a power outage.

The uninterrupted power supply - in short UPS - is a protection against power outage and voltage swing.

The product range offers several Tower and Rack models With a capacity of 500 Watt up to 60kW to meet the different requirements of our customers.

All HP UPS solutions include UPS management functions, being integrated into the HP System Insight Manager, enabling an easy UPS administration and a controlled shutdown.

Higher power needs lead to higher demands if it comes to power distribution in the Rack. HP PDU Solutions – PDU stands for Power Distribution Unit – guarantee an optimal power distribution to all rack-units and furthermore an optimized cable management in the Rack. HP PDUs are available in a variety of designs and capacities, e.g. With the function to monitor the power supply.

The latest solution for data center infrastructure is HPs Intelligent Power Discovery, shortly IPD. This is the first solution allowing integrated measuring and control of the power usage.

The IPD is characterized by a very accurate measurement of the power consumption of 99% and automatic IT-system detection. This allows a fast and specific collection of information on which power outlet the server is plugged into in the PDU and even checking the power redundancies automatically per Server.

Furthermore a comprehensive power supply control enables remote switch-on and switch-off via IP-connection via Servers or other units.

HP KVM solutions – KVM stands for Keyboard Video Mouse – allow an easy and time-saving server access and administration. Via KVM IT-staff can access up to 1024 servers via a single console local at the rack or remote.

The local access is realized through a very space saving combination of the HP KVM Switch and the HP All-in-One Rack Console – that's an integrated rack monitor With keyboard and touchpad.

IT-Administrators appreciate HP KVM solutions in their daily work and the secure and fast access to all areas of server administration as well as additional comfort by supporting virtual media.

HP IP Console Switches offer high potential savings through the opportunity to administrate Servers effectively, even remotely. Especially in heterogeneous environments With various Server-hardware and different operating systems the consistent access via KVM works well and often serves as a backup-path for HP iLO.

HP Rack & Power Solutions are the foundation of your IT. Even in times where everyone speaks of virtualization, a reliable and qualitative Infrastructure is fundamental. HP Rack & Power Options are the best choice for the IT-environment of your customers and applicable even in heterogeneous settings. Being the base of your IT, Rack & Power Solutions help you get the maximum out of your Server- and Storage systems.
