Hello!
Today Lucy will give us a brief explanation on how to find a wealth of information about Windows OEM products offered by HP in our white paper called the “HP FAQ for Microsoft® OEM licensing—Windows® Server, SQL Server, HP Insight with SCE”. OEM licensing is tough topic – there are do’s and don’t’s on rules and regulations from Microsoft, there’s “need to knows” on how to virtualize the Windows OEM ROK products for example, and unique questions on CALs, TS, and downgrades rights.
Working with Microsoft we found that a lot of information on OEM licensing was public but not in a single location. Together, we created and update this paper regularly to provide you with these Question and Answers in one location.
The English paper (which is the master) is located at www.hp.com/go/MicrosoftOEMFAQ Make sure to bookmark this for fast and future reference.
We’ve translated this document in several languages with the unique ISO language identifier such as FR for French is posted as www.hp.com/go/IT/MicrosoftOEMFAQ
Here are all the languages we offer this paper.
The categories of topics we cover are the following:
Here’s an example of the type of question we usually find that this paper is a great reference:
13. What do I do if I lose my COA?
Your Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is the most important part of your OEM license. If you lose your COA, neither Microsoft nor HP can replace it. Guard it, store the numbers, and keep a record on file of this license key.
61. Why do I get a “system not supported” message when trying to install HP OEM media on top of Hyper-V?
You will need to launch HPVirtualOSE.exe in order for the Hyper-V product to allow our HP Branded media to install. For steps on the process, reference the “Installing Windows Server 2008 operating system on virtual machines using HP branded media” section of the HP Factory-Installed Operating System Software Guide for Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 user guide. The guide can be found at:www.hp.com/go/windows/documentation
Every time HP or Microsoft introduces a new product, changes a policy, or a request for a new topic from our pre-sales, tech support, or you, we’ll update the paper. Just contact us on the Coffee Coaching sites or email us on the address listed on your screen with any questions.
