Gigabit-to-the-Desktop Solutions from HP

By Tom Williams, Vertical Markets – Americas Region, HP Networking

Welcome everyone.

There is an explosion in usage and consumption on data networks these days and we hardly seem to take notice.

As it should be, we concern ourselves with the latest applications, the latest revenue-generating tools, data mining tools, reporting applications, and the latest social networking trends without much regard to how each of these will impact our network and  future growth capabilities.

Add to that, employees are bringing their smart phones, tablets, e-readers and other devices so they can have access to people, places and information in ways we have not seen before. IT spends their budgets building a network infrastructure designed to accommodate current bandwidth requirements with an eye toward increased capacity.  But this need for increased capacity is coming at ever-faster rates.  Can we ever be far enough ahead of the curve?

Gigabit Ethernet will overtake Fast Ethernet as the primary network technology.

Gigabit Ethernet technology has become more available and more affordable in both core and edge networking products and in PC connectivity. This merging of Gigabit at the core, the edge, and the clients mean that it is very feasible to implement a Gigabit solution from end to end, thus allowing for huge network performance gains. HP Networking is on the forefront of providing Gigabit connectivity solutions in all areas of the network, including all the way to the desktop.

In this Coffee Coaching session, you’ll learn how HP Networking provides a comprehensive portfolio of campus access technologies that allow the businesses to implement Gigabit to the desktop, and exactly how customers can implement it today.

Advances in high-resolution images and increasing rich media content in basic presentations increases the average file size for e-mail.  Applications dependent upon converged voice, video and data technologies to enable many-to-many communications also push the bandwidth needs higher.   Client-Server model inefficiencies due to lack of proper client-side bandwidth and emerging technologies such as Virtual Display Interfaces (VDI) are also of concern.

Come learn that while Gigabit to the desktop may feel like it has been a long time coming, the time is upon us.  And learn how you can help your customers navigate this technology with the industry-leading Gigabit Ethernet products from HP.
