Erick Gomez is going to show us how to download the SPP from HP.com, and how to run HP SUM.exe, and he’ll talk a little bit about the Welcome screen, the Source Selection screen, the target Selections and finally, how to review installations.
How to download the HP service pack for ProLiant?
First of all, you will have to visit the www.hp.com/go/SPP and click the button for download. Then, you’ll get a prompt screen asking if you want the full SPP or not, once you have it in your desktop, if you wish, you can right click on it and extract the SPP package. After that, you could open it, burn it or mount it. For this exercise, we will just assume that you will open it from your local desktop.
Now, you can just execute the HPSUM.exe. This file is located in the following path: ssp/HP/swpackages/ Once it has been executed, you will see the Splash screen and the Welcome screen.
At the top of the Welcome screen, you will see Breadcrumbs, just a reminder, there is a lot of important information on this screen, Now on this screen, you can see the new features, or the new stuff coming.
If you don't want to see this screen any more, just select the checkbox at the bottom of the screen. Then click the next button and you will be on the Source Selection screen. By default, we grab all the contents in that repository with all the bundles in there, and we will display them.
This will take a little bit of time because we have to scan them and open them. But right after that you will be able to add some repositories, however, when HP SUM is doing one process you will be able to do different actions, just they need to be completed in order to do so.
For the last, you will be able to create reports. When you´re done with this screen you can proceed with the target selection screen, where you will be able to select different targets, the target catalog that we are going to be supporting is really wide, it includes Servers, iLOs, VCs, OAs, etc.
By default, we create the local host, but you can also add or remove targets as needed. Now, provide your credentials for HP SUM and you will trigger the discovery and we will collect some internal data; which will be very useful for us to do some internal analysis and perform which components are needed for your system and which aren’t.
Remember that you can create reports at any time.
When you are done with this screen you can proceed to Review Installation Updates screen, which is actually very complete, because you will be able to see any issues with the devices, where’s the help with the devices, if they are in good health or not, and also to check if there is any dependencies checked.
You can also check and select the installation options to force installations or rewrite components, and also to generate reports.
When everything is OK and ready to update, select your devices and click the update button.
And that's it...easy right?
