How to reset iLO if it hangs on HP ProLiant Servers

Hello folks,

On this iLO University Session, Padmaja Das, an iLO firmware engineer and subject expert, will show us the different options we have to reset iLO when it hangs.

The symptoms that you might see when iLO hangs are:

The user is unable to browse through iLO

iLO takes too long to respond

iLO doesn't’t respond to SSH

A quick solution to recover from those symptoms is:

  • Log in to iLO page if it is able to browse.
  • Enter your login credentials
  • Choose the Diagnostics link from the left navigation menu.
  • Click on the reset button and choose OK to reset iLO.
  • After 30 seconds, log back into iLO.

Using HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility:

  • Go to ww.hp.com/go/iLO to download the HP Configuration Utility on your iLO4 server operating System from the Lights Out Management Section.
  • Save the file in the OS and install it.
  • Once installed, go to the start menu on your computer -Programs -HP System -HP Lighths-Out Online Configuration Utility
  • When the utility opens, choose Summary Tab and Choose Reset iLO/ Set to factory defaults and click on the reset button.
  • After 30 seconds, log back into iLO.

If any of the above works, you may try to unplug the AC power and plug it back.

If you are using a blade server:

  • SSH to OA using OA login credentials
  • Type the command reset server (bayNUMBER)
  • Type YES when “Do you want to continue?” is prompted.
  • A success message will be prompted.
