Meet the HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8 Server
Hello, let’s meet Steve Gonzalez, HP’s WW Product Marketing manager for HP ProLiant DL360 Series Servers. In this session of Coffee Coaching he’s going to cover the new features in the DL360p Gen8 Server.
This is HP’s 8th Generation of ProLiant Servers and we continue to drive the heritage and legacy of Reliability, Accessibility and Serviceability.
In this session we’ll cover – what’s new and what’s improved.
The DL360p Gen8 comes with industry leading performance, efficiency and capacity in a 1U space. It’s an Enterprise class design with the versatility to change for future requirements.
The DL360p Gen8 is the ideal server for performance driven workloads with smaller storage requirements in a dense rack package.
It is built to protect your investment and extend the life of the server with flexible features designed in.
What’s New?
With the DL360p Gen8 you now have the choice of 8 SFF or 4 LFF drives and still have the optical option available.
We are introducing Intel’s E5-2600 Family Series processors with Increased Performance, Capacities and memory channels. The family of processors will come with 2, 4, 6 or 8 Cores and up to 3.3GHz max speeds.
Our newest technology innovation from HP comes with the processors. The HP Exclusive Smart Socket Guide provides you with a new simplicity for installation, serviceability or upgrade. A fool-proof installation mechanism that protects you, the server and your investments.
With our Generation 8 servers we have improved access for serviceability by moving to flat cables and adding management guides. This provides a cleaner look and faster access.
We have improved thermal designs to remove the old black air-baffle of G7 and opened up access to the internal components for faster deployment, configuration or upgrades.
Our new Smart Memory will enable the system to authenticate HP memory to ensure it meets our highest quality HP standards. And since the memory has been optimized for HP ProLiant, it will enable new enhanced memory features. DDR3-1600MHz memory is now available in Gen8 allowing 20% higher memory bandwidth. Gen8 supports 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB memory densities and we can support 1600MHz DIMMS all the way up to 128GB of capacity.
A New Smart Storage family of controllers and drives allow for increased intelligent storage systems. Improved performance, expanded capacities and a new Icon based display will improve drive status and health indication.
Listening to our customer inputs we have provided easier and faster access to the IO on our servers. The new style secure mechanisms on the riser cages allow for a quick removal and replacement of PCI solutions. Simply lift the blue tab – rotate 180 degrees and lift the riser out. Another HP Innovation for an enterprise class design.
HP is re-inventing Rack Server networking with a New Flexible Networking Technology. The HP Flex LOM which is similar to a PCI card resides in the same location where the G7 nics were on the motherboard. It has options and therefore can be changed for Flexible configuration to 1Gb or 10Gb or other options to be determined in future. All this without wasting a PCI slot.
With this new generation of DL360 servers we now introduce new fast access/quick replace HOT PLUG redundant fans. The new designs once again improve thermal and power thresholds for a cooler, quieter and more efficient server.
And, our latest Common Slot Power Supplies have moved up the energy chart with 94% efficiency on Intelligent Power Solutions. This improves efficiency and keeps commonality with previous generations.
Finally, a new version of iLO, iLO Management Engine, with Active Health Monitor, Management and Deployment features will help you with faster deployment and issue resolution.

With a whole new design the DL360p Gen8 server has improved its performance and capacities over previous generations.
- Memory has increased by 2 times over G7 servers
- We have introduced Smart Storage and new carriers to improve storage capacities by 33%
- A 100% improvement in IO performance with PCIe 3.0
- The latest HP Smart Arrays on the Gen8 servers has improved performance up to 200%.
- With HP’s iLO Management Engine and the Active Health Monitoring Systems we have a 5x improvement to diagnose root causes of issues in operations.
- And Key Design Innovations that dramatically improve Reliability, Accessibility and Serviceability
