Sean reviews feature differences for Small Business Server Editions:

  • SBS Standard is for sending and receiving emails, hosting remote access webpages, and for mobile devices access to users email.

  • Essentials is for remote web access webpage and third level domain name option.

The Domain options include a login to set the domain up, ability to create an account & purchase an available domain name, and the ability to transfer your domain names.  In addition Essentials has the ability to buy your certificate as part of your domain name check-out process without any further action.

Standard gives you the ability to update to a third party certificate if you handle mobile devices and roaming computers.

Third level domain solutions require that you use a Windows Live ID, but it is worth it. The third level domain solutions have DNS updated dynamically, you get a third party trusted certificate for free and your domain name will be available within 10 to 15 minutes of signing in.

You want to choose the right domain name solution for your customer, one that is statically defined, or that modifies the ISP changes with SBS 2011 Essentials; you have the option to guarantee to meet their requirements of budget constraints.
