Presenting the HP ProLiant ML350p Gen8

This is a very exciting launch, as it is really showcasing the value-add that HP brings in ProLiant and building on our heritage of innovation.

In this session we’ll cover – what’s new and what’s improved with the 8th generation of the current best-selling ProLiant ML server.

The ML350p Gen8 server is the largest 2P ProLiant server offering industry leading performance, and maximum expandability in a Tower or 5U rack model.

It’s an Enterprise class design with the footprint and expansion options to handle all future requirements in compute, memory, storage, I/O, and power.

And that makes the ML350p Gen8 the ideal server for performance driven workloads with larger storage requirements.

The ML350p Gen8 server also incorporates the innovative technologies being introduced in ProLiant Gen8 servers ranging from Active Health which will trouble-shooting time, to Insight Online which enables management as a service via the web.

With this product, we are also introducing Intel’s E5-2600 Family Series processors with a higher core count, up to 8 cores, and up to 3.3GHz max speeds.

A key innovation from HP is the exclusive Smart Socket Guide which is a fool-proof CPU  installation mechanism that protects you and the server during installations, servicing and upgrades.

HP SmartMemory is a unique technology being introduced for ProLiant Gen8 servers that unlocks certain features only available on HP Qualified memory. A unique signature written on each DIMM identifies HP SmartMemory. This is important because HP SmartMemory, goes through a rigorous qualification and test process, and enables enhanced support through HP Active Health.

With HP SmartMemory, the server will be able to operate low voltage HP SmartMemory at the same 3 DIMMs per channel that 3rd party memory requires at a higher voltage.  The server can also operate UDIMM memory at a 25% faster bus rate than third party memory at the same voltage.

The ML350p Gen8 supports the new HP SmartDrives.  The HP SmartDrives will offer better serviceability than our competition, including drive error, usage logging and integration with Active Health.  Active Health data allows faster issue resolution and clearer visibility to returns and failure modes.  A new Icon based display will improve drive status and health indication, and a Do Not Remove LED will minimize data loss due to wrong drive being pulled out.

With the ML350p Gen8 you can support up to 24 Small Form Factor (SFF) or 18 Large Form Factor (LFF) HDDs.  The SFF models come standard with an 8 bay drive cage with the capability to add 2 more 8 bay drive cages for a  total of 24 SF HDDs.

The LFF models come standard with 6 LFF and can add 2 more for a total of 18 LFF HDDs.

With the Smart Array P420i, the Gen8 servers support up to 2 GB FBWC which allows faster access to data, and improves rebuild times.

With Gen8, HP takes a big leap in embedded management, building on the legacy of iLO.

HP introduces the iLO Management Engine, which will be a part of every ProLiant Gen8 server.

It comes with Active Health Monitor, Management and Deployment features which will help you with faster deployment and issue resolution.

And, our latest Common Slot Power Supplies have moved up the energy chart with 94% Efficiency on Intelligent Power Solutions.  This improves efficiency and keeps commonality with previous generations.

The ML350p Gen8 Server is also available as a rack server and comes w/ features expected in an enterprise datacenter such as Location Discovery Services and System Insight Display to help with quick and easy diagnostics and health status.

With a whole new design the ML350p Gen8 server has improved its’ performance and capacities over previous generations.

  • Memory has increased by 33% over G6 servers
  • We have introduced Smart Storage and new carriers to improve storage capacities up to 125%
  • A 50% increase in IO expansion over G6.
  • The latest HP Smart Arrays on the Gen8 servers has improved performance up to 200%.
  • With HP’s iLO Management Engine and the Active Health Monitoring Systems we have a 5x improvement to diagnose root causes of issues in operations.
  • And Key Design Innovations that dramatically improve Reliability, Accessibility and Serviceability

The ML350p Gen8 is the premier Tower Server designed with features that only HP can deliver, if you are willing to get more information about this Server, we encourage you to visit its overview web site
