ProLiant Smart Buys - What are they and how can they help you?
Meet guest blogger Kathryn Raines. Kathryn former Program Manager with HP ProLiant Smart Buy.
ProLiant Smart Buys are built on the world's most popular, industry-leading ProLiant servers. Smart Buys take the basic server and add a little more to give you a basic building block for small- and medium-size businesses. They can help you increase your business because you can offer your customers quick, discounted shipment of the world's most popular server pre- configured and at a competitive price. Smart Buys are available for every ML tower and DL rack-mounted 100 and 300 series servers—as well as for the BL 460 and 560 blade servers—and are available to ship quickly from not only the HP factories but also from our channel and distributions partners. All methods are designed to get servers to your customers quickly.
These models have been preconfigured based on years of the knowledge HP has gained from learning what SMBs want and need. They're also available as basic building blocks that can be customized with a variety of options such as memory and extra drives to meet your customers' specific needs. For example, they can come preconfigured with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation Edition or with Windows SBS 2008, and can be sold to all sectors and any customer. Just keep in mind that if your customer might want the same server next year, a Smart Buy might not be their best choice because we're constantly refreshing these systems with the newest technologies.
The way to sell Smart Buys is to start with one of the preconfigured servers and then add features and options. These include Smart Buy, discounted, HP-quality memory, which has the industry's highest standards, and industry-leading Insight Control management software. Insight Control includes a great feature, which is the ability to rewind and fast-forward and play through scenarios to figure out the best way to get the most performance out of your servers. Then you can add the Care Packs, which extend and expand support—and when you do it with Smart Buy, these come with a discounted price tag, too. You can add other options such as more hard drives and power supply along with your own value-adds as well.
When you discuss HP ProLiant choices with your customers, remember that ProLiants with model numbers ending in a zero (such as BL460) are powered by Intel processors, and those that end in a five (like a DL125) are AMD-based. And always keep in mind you can use these Smart Buys as a door-opener to show your customers how cost-effective they are.
