The HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 Offers Many Cool Features that can Benefit SMBs

The HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 Server has some great, unique, cool features that can benefit small and mid-sized businesses. Today, we will take a quick look at a few of these features and will see how they can benefit your SMB customers.

Decreased Footprint

When comparing the ML350e Gen8 v2 to the ML350e Gen8, you will probably notice many similarities. For example, both the ML350e Gen8 and ML350e Gen8 v2 have a 5U chassis. However, you may overlook the fact that the v2 has a smaller overall size (measuring H x W x D:  16.93 x 7.87 x 24.8 in) than the Gen8 (which measured H x W x D 18.19” x 8.58” x 29.13”).

So why is this important for your SMB customers? In many small and mid-size businesses, office space is at a premium. As a result, servers and other IT equipment is often required to fit into tight spaces. HP had these space restrictions in mind when they designed the ML350e Gen8 v2’s chassis with a depth less than 25 inches.

HP Common Slots (CS) Power Supplies

The HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 supports five power supply options: a 460W multi-output power supply, Gold-certified (92% efficiency) 460W and 750W Common Slot power supply options, and Platinum-certified (94% efficiency) Common Power Slot power supply options. The 460W multi-output power supply option gives customers a great entry-level, non-redundant, non-hot plug option focused on providing basic features at a great price.

Upgrading  to one of the Common Slot power supply options will provide customers with several features that are not available with the basic 460W power supply including:

1)      The ability to add power redundancy by adding a second Common Slot power supply

2)      Hot-plug capability making the system easier than ever to service

3)      A choice of power output, 460W or 750W, so SMB customers can right-size the power supply to match their system’s needs

4)      A choice between two high-efficiency options (92% or 94%) that will help customers lower their power costs

**If you need help determining which power supply would be best for your SMB customers, download the HP Power Advisor tool and add the ML350e Gen8 v2’s configuration to determine the best option. You can also check out the HP Common Slot power supply QuickSpecs for more details on Common Slot features and benefits.

Internal Tape Compatibility

Every business should have a backup data plan to protect their critical data and secure their business assets. HP offers a wide variety of back up options with solutions for both on premise and in the cloud. When an on premise solution is picked, many SMB customers do not want an additional device hanging off the side of their server as this option takes up more space and can be very messy adding additional cables and plugs. With the ML350e Gen8 v2’s ability to add an internal tape drive, your SMB customers are able to keep the small footprint of the server while keeping clutter to a minimum.

To further benefit your customers, you may consider pairing the HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 v2 with Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, the latest version of Windows Small Business Server Essentials. R2 Essentials offers users a flexible, affordable, easy-to-user server solution for small businesses with up to 25 users and 50 devices. Growing businesses can take advantage of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials to more easily protect, centralize, organize, and access their applications and information from almost anywhere using virtually any device. In addition, customers can control access to applications more easily, reducing the risk of data being stored or potentially lost on unprotected devices.
