Converged Infrastructure
Drive the New Style of IT with HP Converged Infrastructure. Old networking, storage, servers and security silos come together into a simply-managed, business-oriented datacenter.

2013 was a great year for IT convergence—with much more to come in 2014!

There’s no doubt 2013 was a great year for innovation in technology. It is evident that an evolution in the way of purchasing, deploying and managing IT is here; we call it the new style of IT. In this blog I’d like to share with you, the 3 topics I consider were important in IT convergence in 2013.

Back to the new style of IT, this concept does not only impact the technology, but also the tasks and skills IT pros need to embrace with the new trends. So here’s #1 topic, back to HP Discover Las Vegas, where we learned from Helen Tang, about the skills needed for this phase of IT.

HP Discover - New Style of IT - New sets of skills.

But IT pros are not the only ones that need to be prepared, companies also need to do it in order to be able to embrace the new trends in IT convergence. Sounds easy, but one needs to take into account several things. So here’s #2, through the second half of the year, Duncan Campbell, wrote a series of blogs, outlining what to consider in order to adopt a converged infrastructure IT model:

And last but not least, HP Converged Systems released true Converged Infrastructure products that make all of the above a reality! On one hand we have HP OneView, a platform that allows the management of your HP Converged Infrastructure. It won the 2013 Frost & Sullivan’s New Product Innovation Award for Software Defined Data Center Management Platforms.

On the other hand the “Sharks project” was revealed during HP Discover Barcelona; I’m talking about the new virtualization converged solutions product line: HP ConvergedSystem 100, HP ConvergedSystem 300 and HP ConvergedSystem 700.

But what’s in the future for HP Converged Infrastructure? Well the horizon is showing Software Defined Datacenter as a hot item, which will bring new levels of speed and agility to your infrastructure, but I’ll save that topic for next year. Meanwhile I’d like to hear what were your top 3 Converged Infrastructure topics during 2013?

I wish you have a great holiday season in company of family and friends, and may 2014 bring joy to every one!
