Converged Infrastructure
Drive the New Style of IT with HP Converged Infrastructure. Old networking, storage, servers and security silos come together into a simply-managed, business-oriented datacenter.

Another great pairing is here: HP 3PAR StoreServ and HP OneView converge

By Guest blogger Lee Kaminski, HP Storage

Think of all the great pairings throughout time: Romeo and Juliet, Whistler and his mother, baseball and hot dogs. And now enterprises of all sizes looking to create a truly converged infrastructure for their datacenter can have HP 3PAR StoreServ storage integrated with HP OneView. HP OneView 1.10 now includes automation and visibility for award winning 3PAR StoreServ, including the new 7450 with incredible flash storage performance and efficiency. That means a converged infrastructure can now be built on the foundation of HP’s best in class enterprise servers, storage and networking hardware and managed from a single purpose-built management console.

Including enterprise class storage in your converged infrastructure just became easier, safer and faster. HP OneView provides automated, policy-driven provisioning of storage resources. 3PAR StoreServ storage is fully integrated with server profiles to save you time and make you more productive. With templates you can attach private or shared storage volumes to HP OneView server profiles to enable automated boot target configuration.

oneview storage graphic.pngThe single user interface supports a variety of fiber channel architectures so users can focus on delivering workloads to the business rather than managing hardware. HP OneView supports traditional SAN fabric architectures where HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage Systems are connected to HP B-series Fiber Channel SANs. HP OneView also supports the direct attach architecture where HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems are connected directly to an enclosure via fiber channel.

Using 3PAR StoreServ Storage and attaching volumes to server profiles within HP OneView is simple. From HP OneView you add a storage system and storage pools. Then you add SANs and associate SAN managers with Fiber Channel networks. You can create new volumes or import volumes existing in your 3PAR StoreServ array and finally volumes are attached to server profiles utilizing automated SAN zoning. Gone are the days of fat fingering WWNs or missing boundary conditions in your scripts. HP OneView automates the whole process from a single User Interface. The time savings are significant. For example, with the ability to configure server, storage and Virtual Connect connectivity in the same way from the same console, it’s now as much as 6 times faster to deploy a complete 32 node vSphere cluster.

Once you’ve rolled out your workloads, your complete converged infrastructure is available in the same user interface, the same RESTful API, the same policy-based templates and security services. No extra configuration or monitoring setup is required. HP OneView monitors 3PAR StoreServ storage systems and issues alerts when there is a change in health or connectivity status of storage systems. Those storage systems are also monitored to ensure that they are synchronized with changes to hardware and configuration settings. Should the appliance lose connectivity with a 3PAR StoreServ platform, an alert is displayed until connectivity is restored.

For basic monitoring as well as complex troubleshooting, Storage resource summaries are available alongside server and network summaries in the HP OneView Dashboard. Storage resources are also available in Map View and Smart Search to dig into the details of your storage without ever leaving the OneView environment.

HP OneView provides common communication between servers, storage and network teams. New converged automation speeds delivery of infrastructure while making time consuming implementation mistakes a thing of the past. And all of this is based on world class HP Servers and world class HP Storage. So go celebrate with some cake and ice cream.
