DCIM's role in solving data center pain points: new insights from IDC

By Steve Wibrew, Services Strategy and Portfolio Lead, HP IT Management and Automation Services

Steve Wibrew_MG_7240.jpgWe at HP have been closely following the evolution of data center infrastructure management (DCIM), and we’ve seen that organizations need some support in deploying and integrating DCIM into their way of working and aligning with their IT management toolsets. We listened to our customers and industry analysts, as well as our partners and HP colleagues, to develop services that help companies align the management of data center facilities, IT infrastructure and service management.

It’s good to see new research from IDC that, in my view, supports our approach. According to a report titled DCIM’s Role in Solving Datacenter Pain Points: Results of the 2013 Data Center Survey, “datacenters are plagued with downtime because of lack of visibility and control over resources leading to errors as IT organizations struggle to keep pace with demands. Large datacenters, especially, recognize the strategic, as opposed to operational, benefits of DCIM, yet most struggle with budgeting constraints and ease-of-use issues.” (You can read an abstract or purchase a copy of the report here.)

Our recently launched HP Converged Management Consulting Services address these pain points. For IDC’s view of our new services, take a look at this IDC LINK report, which notes that HP’s approach is “critical to breaking down existing silos and ensuring alignment to current and future business objectives, as well as understanding the process changes needed to ensure a successful migration.” For a detailed look at our services, see Chris Coggrave’s post Blast through the barriers to DCIM with 4 New HP Services.
