EMEA customers see fast path to results with HP ConvergedSystem for Virtualization

By Guest blogger Mark Payne, Vice President, HP Converged Systems EMEA

Last December at HP Discover Barcelona, we introduced a new portfolio of HP ConvergedSystem products we affectionately call Sharks. These are purpose-built, workload-optimized systems designed to deliver results quickly. The “Shark economics” business model for these systems delivers a fast time-to-value – as little as 20 days from order to operation – as customers transition to hybrid cloud.

The first platforms out of the water, so to speak, were the HP ConvergedSystem for Virtualization models. We are seeing successful adoption of these models: the HP ConvergedSystem 300 for businesses with environments with 50-300 virtual machines; and the HP ConvergedSystem 700 and the HP ConvergedSystem 700x for those requiring 100-1000+ virtual machines. The HP ConvergedSystem 700x offers more flexible configurations and features options for VMware, Microsoft and other virtualization platforms. All of the systems feature HP OneView for automating the management of a broad pool of datacenter resources including integration with VMware vCenter and Microsoft Systems Center.

I’d like to share the stories of two European customers who have deployed the HPConvergedSystem 700 and HP ConvergedSystem 700x and are at different stages on their journeys to the cloud. The ConvergedSystem portfolio offers pre-packaged systems with flexible configurations that work for wherever you are in your journey.

At the beginning of its cloud journey is Cocensus, a Dutch organization which provides advice to citizens on the payment of municipal taxes. Cocensus needed to consolidate and virtualize its IT systems to maximize cost savings and achieve higher performance. The organization could have tried the “do-it-yourself” approach to possibly save money or purchased “integrated systems” assembled from components provided by multiple vendors. Instead, they chose HP and the HP ConvergedSystem 700 for Virtualization. “As a total solution vendor with a single point of contact, HP was easy to work with, providing everything we need to run our business, from datacenter infrastructure to PCs and printers. HP has accelerated time to value for Cocensus and reduced our risks,” says George Schipper, Director, Cocensus. The HP ConvergedSystem 700 has simplified the organization’s IT by unifying the servers, storage, networking, software and services needed to power its IT infrastructure. It has reduced the risks associated with IT complexity and has helped Cocensus control the expenditures associated with virtualization. Going forward, this platform provides the scalability and flexibility that Cocensus needs with an open on-ramp to the cloud.

The second customer story I’d like to share is office solutions company HAVL, another Dutch customer who planned to launch a managed cloud computing service. HAVL decided to implement the HP ConvergedSystem 700x for Microsoft solution to support its HP CloudSystem environment. HAVL is creating two different cloud environments. One is a multi-tenanted cloud that will be used by smaller companies, and the other is for larger companies who want a private cloud. Since this is a new business venture for HAVL, the flexibility and easy management of HP CloudSystem software running on the HP ConvergedSystem 700x were very important. “Virtualization means that we can roll out new servers and build an environment for a new customer in less than one day, ready for data migration,” says Sander van Dijk, IT engineer and consultant, HAVL. The new cloud offering is already creating potential business growth for HAVL and, because the HP ConvergedSystem 700x platform is a complete, future-ready solution, the company’s customers will benefit from scalable, affordable, best-of-breed managed cloud services for years to come.

I’ll be bringing more stories of our customers’ successes with the HP ConvergedSystem portfolio in the coming months.

Mark
