Converged Infrastructure

HP Converged Systems over HP Discover, Barcelona

Over the last two decades, HP has seen how IT has really become a technology integrator instead of an information innovator.  In past blogs I have written about the 70:30 ratio where IT is being constrained with too few resources being spent on innovation within the business. With too many products, too many tools, and overly complex processes, contains IT to where it cannot deliver fast enough and spends too many resources on maintenance and not enough on innovation.  Coupled with the exponential growth in social, mobile, cloud and big data, IT has to find a way to become more agile, to reduce costs, and most importantly to innovate. So what’s the importance of attending a technology show like HP Discover?

For as many times as I have attended HP Discover, the one thing that impresses me about the event is the breadth and depth of products across server, storage and networks along with Cloud, Big Data, Mobility and Security. But the thing that impresses me the most is the breadth of knowledge contained within all the staffers in the product showcase and the speakers presenting the wide variety of different breakout sessions. Business or technology related, if you have questions that need to be answered, there are not too many opportunities within the year to have immediate access to all this intellectual HP knowledge all under one roof.

If you are attending HP Discover in person or just want to tune in and catch up on activities online, keep a special eye out for news on HP Converged Systems. HP Converged Systems are a portfolio of workload-optimized engineered systems that are easy to procure, manage, and support.   Including servers, storage, networking, and software, these complete engineered systems can be trusted for key workloads like virtualization, cloud and big data.  They unite market-leading HP Converged Infrastructure with decades of experience in solution design for major applications to provide performance-optimized solutions out of the box.  HP Converged Systems offer a total systems experience that dramatically simplifies IT through quick deployment, intuitive management, and system-level support, letting IT move from infrastructure craftsmen to business service experts.

In my next blog I will provide a more detailed break out of all the Converged Systems related sessions at the show, but here’s a quick summary for now:

Big Data – 5 breakout sessions from Converged Systems for HAVEn:  Building Big Data solutions for the enterprise (TB2556) to HP 3PAR StoreServ 7400 improves HP AppSystems for SAP HANA (DF3266)

Cloud and CloudSystem – 3 breakout sessions from HP CloudSystem and Cloud Maps: accelerating your path to Converged Cloud (DT2546) to Using HP CloudSystem to deploy and manage application and infrastructure services (TB2394)

Virtualization – 10 breakout sessions from The Virtualization Games: How HP is addressing your toughest virtualization needs (DT2494) to Converged Systems for virtualization: understanding your choices (TB2620)

Infrastructure Management with HP OneView – 7 sessions from How to dramatically accelerate five common datacenter tasks with HP OneView (TB253) to HP OneView VMware Integrations - Managing your HP infrastructure with VMware vCenter (DT2547)

Most importantly, don’t forget to listen in on Tom Joyce’s keynote titled No silo left behind: Convergence in the age of virtualization, cloud, and big data. TK2319 Tuesday 12/10 11:20-12:20.During this session Tom will explain HP next major step in workload-optimized Converged Systems for virtualization, cloud, and big data along with the latest HP innovations and solutions that are leading the new end-to-end revolution.

For information on these sessions, demos and more, head off to the HP Discover event site and check out the wealth of session hosted at the event. Mark your calendar for Dec 10 – 12, I hope I get an opportunity to see you in Barcelona.
